I feel wretched, would you test?

OH had a temperature last week and our children followed with temps closely after, they've also had snotty noses and a mild cough.

I got a bit of a tickly cough on Wednesday but didn't feel too bad until last night when i suddenly felt very unwell.

Awful nights sleep, boiling hot then freezing cold, my back and limbs all ache like I've been lifting weights. I feel horrific.

Fully vaxxed.

Would you bother testing or just ride it out without knowing?

I’d test. Sounds similar to how I felt last week (tested positive)

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 11/03/2022 06:26

I'd want to know, then do with the info whatever you like. Just because you can go about your business as normal doesn't mean you have to if you are feeling unwell or if you are worried about passing it on to someone vulnerable.

I'm currently covid positive, I've been triple vaccinated and have those symptoms

Iggly · 11/03/2022 06:27

Of course I’d test. I’d want to know if I needed to follow guidance and not spread covid plus if I got really ill, at least I know what’s going on.

Namechangeof2021 · 11/03/2022 06:37

I've just booked a walk through test for 2.30 this afternoon. Fingers crossed it's negative, I just have a niggling feeling it'll be positive because of these god awful body aches

Why wouldn't you test? Can't you do a LFT?

Namechangeof2021 · 11/03/2022 06:42

Aren't you told not to do lateral flows if you have symptoms?

This is how I’d feel too. I know the guidelines are more relaxed now but I’d have tested the rest of the family last week as well.
AlwaysLatte · 11/03/2022 06:42

I'd test so that I could stay home and avoid passing it on.

AlwaysLatte · 11/03/2022 06:43

Hope it's negative for your birthday!

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 11/03/2022 06:44

Not in Ireland anyway NameChange. We are told to test if we have symptoms.

Namechangeof2021 · 11/03/2022 06:45

I've been staying home since I felt unwell anyway as I'm a massive wuss when ill and fortunately on mat leave. Kids are off nursery as per their policy. OH tested negative on Tuesday after his temp so I wasn't sure whether it was completely nessecary for anything other than peace of mind. I'll drag myself down to the test centre though. Its the right thing to do

PCR if you have symptoms, not a lateral flow.
Colleagues of mine are ill at the moment, negative tests, so there’s obviously so going round now that masks are off.

Locomelon · 11/03/2022 06:46

Def do an lft at home too. I would.

Namechangeof2021 · 11/03/2022 06:48

I'll send OH to the chemist across the road for some LTF's aswell, just as a back up. Thanks all

peboh · 11/03/2022 06:48

No, I wouldn't test. If you feel badly, stay at home until you feel better as you would any other illness.
Soon you'll be paying for tests, and I don't imagine many people will be telling you need to test then.

megletthesecond · 11/03/2022 06:48

Lateral flows still work if you have symptoms.

But a PCR will be on your medical record, which might be handy.

GeneLovesJezebel · 11/03/2022 06:50

Lateral flow was negative on the same day my DH had a positive PCR.
LFT’s are meant for symptomless cases.

Whataboutno · 11/03/2022 07:46

Hope you feel better soon and happy Birthday 🎈 🎂

Libertybear80 · 11/03/2022 07:48

Exact same symptoms with my DD this am. It's the first thing I want to rule out. It's negative on an LFT.

Cookerhood · 11/03/2022 07:51

How do the tests know if you have symptoms or not? Of course they work. In fact they are more reliable if you have symptoms as you are likely to have a higher viral load

Cookerhood · 11/03/2022 07:52

Here are the current guidelines

dgirluk · 11/03/2022 08:04

I had read that lfts were not recommended if you had symptoms - presumably they’re less accurate if you’re symptomatic although i dont know why??

Then I started feeling ill after a trip and used lft, which was positive on Monday. Been feeling ill all week and tested positive again this morning, so at least in my case they are working even though symptomatic.

LoganberryJam · 11/03/2022 08:06

LFTs still work if you have symptoms. It's just that they're less accurate generally (whether you have symptoms or not), and if you have symptoms it's probably worth taking the more accurate test.

There's nothing "wrong" with using an LFT if you have symptoms.

No they aren't. It's just a weird myth that has grown up because of the message that it was important to know if you have symptoms. LFTS were intended for population screening to pick up people who didn't know they have it, but they still work.
