Is it worth trying to get to sleep?

Tested positive today, although I've been feeling poorly since Thursday evening.

Dh in spare room. I can't sleep so I'm watching TV. I'm freezing despite layers, duvets and hot water bottle. Feel crap and achey.

Feeling a bit foolish that I'm not even trying to get to sleep.

Anyone had similar?

You need sleep and lots of rest to recover so you should definitely try. I can sympathise though!
Hope you feel better soon

Thanks for answering @Amipreg1. Feeling less alone. Yes, you are right. Just as soon as I get my hands warm. Smile

I'm similar, poorly since Friday, v faint positive on lft yesterday and currently waiting for pcr results. I find listening to a podcast helps me dose off. Just woke due to throbbing throat and I'm waiting for painkillers to kick in before attempting going back to sleep. Plenty ibuprofen / cold and flu tablets and keep hydrated

Ive learned, ill or not, that when I cant sleep I dont try, it give me a headache and makes me stressed to try if I cant

I sit up and watch telly or catch up, drink tea, get snuggled under blankets and I know at some point I will get tired enough to switch it off.

Im watching telly now as I know I dont think i'll sleep

I was exactly the same. I was like that for 2 days and then started to get better.

@onwardsandupwards22 you are a genius! I forgot about podcasts. Right, something gentle. Let me have a look. I was listening to Rebel Wisdom earlier about the religious history of Russia.

Maybe something else.Grin

Hahaha! I've been listening to Dr chatterjee's feel better, live more podcast. It's really good but at night the voices are quite soothing and topics not exciting enough to keep me up Grin

It sounds counterintuitive but I find trying to stay awake in bed actually makes me tired and fall asleep more quickly.

Hope you feel better soon OP!

I was thinking Dr Huberman on how your gut microbiome affects your nervous system.

Do you think Dr Chatterjee would be more appropriate?

OP posts:

Thanks @ElIie. Yes, I usually find that too. I have an effective wind down routine which usually gets me to sleep no bother.

Will try a podcast.

Get your DH to get you some night nurse for tomorrow night! Seriously, I’ve got covid, and for the past 3 night I have had the best sleep ever after a dose of this before bed. Tonight I’ve been tossing and turning since 2am, because you’re not supposed to take it for more than 3 nights.. I hope you’re feeling better soon.

Awrite · 06/03/2022 04:38

Will do @Randommother. Pretty crap, isn't it?

I snoozed for the podcast (Dr Chatterjee, how to eat to beat disease). However, totally woke up when it finished. Of course.

If covid can affect taste and smell, it can mess with central nervous system so not being able to sleep makes sense to me. Could be psychosomatic of course. So many people told me they couldn't sleep.

Hope you are all in the land of nod ...

Exactly the same here. Mumsnetting helps

Awrite · 06/03/2022 04:55

Do you have covid @mummagirl?

Yes, mumsnetting definitely helps. A good AIBU where the op doesn't want to accept that they are indeed unreasonable is my current favourite.

When I had covid, I couldn’t sleep for coughing for three weeks. I just lay in bed watching stuff on my tablet. I figured rest was better than nothing. Once the cough subsided, I more than made up for it as was falling asleep by early evening.

onwardsandupwards22 · 06/03/2022 07:32

Hope you Managed to get some sleep @Awrite

@Randommother I was wondering if I could take this! Will do so tonight. Thanks

Awrite · 07/03/2022 07:48

Well, I slept last night. Out like a light until my alarm this morning. Have woken with a killer sore throat though.
