Another wave in the SE?

I live in the SE (Kent/Sussex border) and practically everybody I know currently has covid, or their children do, very much like in December when everyone starting dropping like flies to Omicron. I've noticed the cases have gone up in the daily stats but I don't think they reflect just how high cases are in certain areas.

If you are SE are you experiencing similar?

We are in Woking, Surrey and cases are finally dropping here, where they’ve been really high up for a few weeks until last week.

We're in Buckinghamshire. Many at our school had it over half term, and I now have it, having caught it from our daughter.

paddingtonsmarmalade1 · 03/03/2022 09:52

We're SE and there were loads off school before half term with it, and I know a lot of people who had it half term and the week after.

Similar area. DD,and DGKs had it January, they are 40 plus miles away. Don't know anyone here who has it. A lot of nursing friends do they are regularly testing.

I’m east of England and there’s definitely a rise backed up by the ZOE data. It looks the same for a few areas from what I can see on their site. I suppose it’s to be expected given the lifting of testing requirements but it’s slightly unnerving.

Obviously the ship has sailed, but I really wish we’d maintained at a level (any level) for a few weeks before starting to pull back the remaining mitigations.

I agree it's not just the SE. I'm in a different region. There are 11 people in my team, only 1 has had it up to this week, and now I've got 6 off at once with covid. All these people work remotely (but still in our region) so they haven't had contact with each other. The official numbers aren't showing the real scale right now as people aren't reporting test results as much any more.

I’m SE and it’s been consistently around a lot since Christmas. But last few weeks I feel like I know more Middle aged/older people with it whereas before it was mainly parents and school children. I wonder if it’s partly down to immunity from the booster starting to wane?

Butteryflakycrust83 · 03/03/2022 13:17

I am in the SE and I have several colleagues off with it, some for the second or third time now.

DespairingHomeowner · 03/03/2022 13:57

Yes - I have it now (outer London, think family brought it up from Bristol though). Friend had it last week (teacher). Lots of people now 3+ months post booster plus seems like anyone who wears a mask now is viewed as an oddball which doesn’t help

Now there are no rules re isolating I think people will feel justified in going out while still positive so I expect another wave in March …

HesterShaw1 · 03/03/2022 15:40

No one I know cares any more.

Jules912 · 03/03/2022 18:17

I haven't noticed this but DCs school had a massive outbreak in January so it's hopefully a bit soon for it to go round again.

Tattydh · 03/03/2022 18:21

I’m in a similar area to you, Tunbridge Wells, and I think I know more people currently with Covid than I have known through the entire pandemic

leotardrock · 03/03/2022 18:32

I emailed a team @ work today to ask for a piece of work, only 1 of 9 left standing, everyone else off with Covid!
It hadn't gone anywhere! 🙄

ThatPosterIsSoRight · 03/03/2022 18:49

West Sussex has been highest in England for a while, East Sussex has just pipped it now. But overall numbers are low compared to where we were in Jan (though who knows what gets reported/ tested).

So I don’t think it’s the start of a new wave, I think it got omicron a bit late and with lower immunity from other variants it’s still working it’s way through the population.
