Take more time off work or try to work from home?

I'm on day 6. I was off sick 1 1/2 days last week before testing positive. The weekend was really rough - it is only today, day 6, I feel slightly better. However I still can't have a phone call without coughing my way through it and feel very fatigued.

I have managed to cook some eggs, wash some dishes and even have a bath today though - small wins!

Unfortunately there is a culture of presenteeism at my company. On the one hand I think I could try some light tasks as there is loads to do, on the other I worry I'll set myself back by returning too soon...how long did it take others to be able to work? Did you go back gradually?

I think it’s best to be cautious with Covid. Overdoing it is linked to the risk or long Covid so it’s just not worth it. Day 6 is early days really in recovery. You may feel much better in a day or two or get better then worse like many do. I’d wait until you have a good few clear days of feeling much better.

janeseymour78 · 28/02/2022 19:50

I didn't know that about long covid @Delatron - in fact I don't know much about covid at all. Just that I've spent the last 2 years trying to avoid getting it.

Another colleague has it and has made a show of ' I feel terrible but I'll be checking emails and doing work when I van throughout the day'. Which tbh had made me feel some pressure to do similar.

Even another day might be enough. But yes I feel extremely tired.

It affects everyone differently so you shouldn’t feel any pressure with regards to what another colleague was doing. Some people have no symptoms others are ill for months with no rhyme or reason.

I would stress how very ill you are and you will be back working when completely recovered and your work should be supportive of this.

I found it I overdid it one day it would really set me back the next. Then one day I just woke up feeling much better.

Hope you feel better soon!

You’re legit sick. Give yourself time to heal and recover.

Lots of people have Covid and are fine - and can work - good for them. You’re not. Don’t set yourself back.

janeseymour78 · 28/02/2022 21:27

Thank you @RedRobin100. I wish I could shake the guilt I feel about it. They are already down 2 people this week and now me too.

And yet I know I could set myself back more if I rush back to work. I know you're right!

Rest and let yourself fully recover.
I was in bed for a week and having 6.30/7pm bedtimes for 4-5 weeks afterwards.
It's like flu in the respect it can take a long time.to fully get over so the easier you take it the better.

DinoDora2 · 01/03/2022 09:27

Please take it carefully. I actually started to feel better around day 7/8 and then crashed. I ended up being off work for over a month with extreme brain fog and fatigue, insomnia etc. Triple jabbed.

I've a few friends of the same age who've been similarly affected by omicron.

ItsCanardBruv · 01/03/2022 16:54

Day 18 here and thankfully between jobs so no need to “show up”. But the strain I have (and is in my village) seems to have knocked everyone for six fatigue-wise. Nobody is “ill” per se, but crawling back in to bed once the kids are off to school.

All very odd.

I know and I would feel the same guilt and pressure to keep working. But I also know that if prob do a terrible job if properly I’ll..
RedRobin100 · 01/03/2022 18:58

*ill

Scottishgirl85 · 01/03/2022 19:23

Are you testing negative?

Viviennemary · 01/03/2022 19:24

If you feel ill take some more time off.

janeseymour78 · 01/03/2022 21:58

No @Scottishgirl85 - still positive here. Awful chesty cough and fatigue are the symptoms now.

I don't feel as floored as I did so I'm going to start trying to do some work. I was expected into the office for meetings early next week which I struggle to see happening unless I experience a big improvement.

Scottishgirl85 · 01/03/2022 22:24

Definitely don't go in whilst positive. Although isolation not mandatory it's still guidance if you know you're positive. How short sighted of them to want you to come in and make others ill!?
You're still several days away from next week so no need to make decisions now.
Hope you feel better soon
