Rattle in chest - day 12

sparklefarts · 28/02/2022 15:30

Hi all

I'm day 12 or 13. Majority of symptoms improving except absolutely wiped.
Breathlessness just not easing and now my chest is rattling every time I cough and it feels like I need to clear the rattle but coughing just isn't clearing it.
I can pin point exactly where the rattle is on my left side

Could this be a chest infection?

I have asthma if that makes any difference

Tia

It sounds like the remains of a chest infection. I used to have a lot of those when younger and often had a 'chest rattle', I don't now (thankfully and hopefully). It will pass but if it doesn't, go to your doctor or at least talk to a doctor on the 'phone.

The fact that your symptoms are improving is a good sign.

Thank you.

I'm just surprised how long the cough and breathlessness is lasting!

Still doing lots better than many many others Shock

My neighbour is recovering from Covid, tested negative for the first time. She was quite rough at the beginning, dreadful cough and her throat was terribly sore, she found it difficult to swallow. It gradually faded and she is fine now but still has a lingering cough.

You will be fine but these things take their own time.

My Covid symptoms were flu like, but I thought I can handle it. (74)
Then it moved to bronchial pneumonia.
I had a Zoom call with my Dr. and he prescribed Doxycycline.
"Background: Doxycycline is often used for treating COVID-19 respiratory symptoms in the community despite an absence of evidence from clinical trials to support its use. We aimed to assess the efficacy of doxycycline to treat suspected COVID-19 in the community among people at high risk of adverse outcomes."

It's been 6 weeks now and the rattle has gone. ( At one point I thought I had to be hospitalized.) But I had surgery prior to that and didn't want to go through the prodding and poking again.
I still feel weak...Lost weight...no appetite...sleep a lot...lots of fluids. Everyday I wake up I think I'm going to tackle the day...do a laoad of laundry and go back to sleep.
Horrible...but am getting slowly better and saw a big difference in recovery after the antibiotic.
Good Luck! Hope you start feeling better Flowers

Load of laundry oops

I had no cough or asthma issues till around then. For me it was annoying nighttime asthma and feeling like there was some gunk in my upper airways. Had to keep using blue a lot. It did get better on its own after a week or so.

It was the fatigue though that caused the most issues and knocked me out for a full month.

sparklefarts · 01/03/2022 11:38

@PiperPosey that sounds awful. I hope you get better soon Thanks

You could ask Gp but in my experience they only treat if it's lower down.

I had to keep using my blue inhaler through the day and night(on top of Fostair) and get Dh to wack me on the back when leaning forward at times. How I slept seemed to affect it, not on your back.

I didn't try steaming as I'm not sure with asthma. (Late diagnosis, always used to though.)

I toyed with asking for oral steroids but my peak flow wasn't too low and they can be a whole other word of pain for me!

I hope you get well soon

Lagarthatheviking · 01/03/2022 12:51

I would: Take blue inhaler regularly 2 puffs 4x day to open airways up (plus steroid inhalers as usual). Take peak flow.

If this doesn’t sort it phone GP for help.
Get well soon

Lagarthatheviking · 01/03/2022 12:52

Oh and when I last felt like that I needed antibiotics for a chest infection

Thank you so much...The gunk, the clearing of the throat every 5 minutes and fatigue now I have a feeling will be lasting for a long time. I look around and have so much to do..

And can't get to it... OH well..Thank God I love to sleep...It's my hobby now..ha.. Smile

Yes definately, I've had Covid for 3 weeks now, awful felt really ill. I ended up seeing a paramedic who suggested antibiotics for bronchitis. Never had a problem with my chest ever so it was scary.
I had a coughing fit last week and I honestly thought my time had come. It was terrifying and went on for about 3 minutes. I couldn't breathe or take a drink. Never been so scared
