Hi ya'll

Does anyone know how Likely you are to still test positive for covid on a pcr 60 days after having the infection?
I have to take a pcr before going into hospital I told them it will be at 60 days post infection and they said do it and await the results some show some don't , however if I show I won't be able to have my op which I've waited 15 months for anxiety is so bad

Has anyone had anything like this? I read omicron only lasts 7 weeks on a pcr but how right that is I don't know ,

I think it is very unlikely.

I was less than 90 days from positive pcr result when I went in to hospital. I told the hospital when I tested positive and they said not to go for the pcr. I asked again at the pre-op and she cancled the pcr appointment for me.

I don't think you are likely to still test positive, bit you could.

Thanks @kimlo was you still able to go into hospital or did they cancel the appointment because of it ?

I still had the operation. I had isolated for 10 days before hand as well.

Yes I am about to start that myself that's great to know I might just call them tomorrow and hope for the best

People 'can' be positive even 90 days later, but the majority aren't. The hospital should be aware of this, and know that a PCR within 90 days of infection 'could' show positive and account for this. This is generally isolation and LFT's prior to surgery instead of another PCR. Are you in England?

A small part of my job looks at PCR results post covid illness. I don't know exact stats, but very roughly, over 60% (possibly more) of the swabs we get are negative on a PCR by day 10 since symptoms started or since 1st positive PCR if asymptomatic..

@MarmiteCoriander
Wow that's really interesting, yes in England my brother was told by the nhs 7weeks since being positive for covid is fine to go into hospital however I am going into a privet hospital and she was very clear 90 days, I've just received my pcr in the post to do 3 days before going in, honestly do not know what to do now , if I do the pcr and it's positive and they refuse me in god knows how much longer I'll have to wait having quiet major op so won't be able to drive 6-8 weeks of lift at all after it, so DH had to book 4 weeks off work which was really hard to do in the first place so much in place ready for this op not even going out now a week before just to be safe

@MummaL32 the 7 weeks is they wont do an elective surgery for 7 weeks after covid. I just made it, if I had tested positive a couple of days later they would have cancled.

The 90 days is the amount of time you could possibly test positive for after a covid infection.

MummaL32 · 03/03/2022 21:35

That makes
More sense thank you,

I actually booked a PCR this week and it was negative so I should be fine when taking my PCR Sunday thankfully
