What would you do re school on Monday

7 year old DD tested positive Monday 21st February (thanks covid for ruining half term). She's still faint positive today but better now (she was quite unwell first few days). So return to school on Monday will be Day 7. Our school haven't communicated/updated guidance since the dropping of all restrictions. Do we send her to school on Day 7 since she's now well but possibly still faint positive, or is that irresponsible? How long do lfts stay positive for?
My husband and I, plus DD aged 3 have been negative throughout (no idea how!).

Can you email the office and ask what they advise?

TheKeatingFive · 26/02/2022 10:59

The fact she's still testing positive is irrelevant - you don't have to wait for a negative. What's the current isolation period for you (I'm in ROI where it's 7 days, so I would send in).

SNUG2022 · 26/02/2022 11:01

Send in.

ohidoliketobe · 26/02/2022 11:02

Are you in England? We had an email from.nurserybyesterday outlining the updated and the changes they would be making to their policies, and it stated "You are now no longer legally required to self isolate should you contract covid 19, however, the government together with the department for Education are still advising that children self isolate for 5 days"

SillyBub · 26/02/2022 11:02

You haven't said where you are but if you're in England then the DfE guidance is as it was before. Isolate if positive. Start taking LFTs from Day 5. If you get 2 negatives 24 hours apart they can return to school immediately. If they're still testing positive then continue to isolate but they can return after their full 10 day isolation.

So today is her day 5, if she doesn't get the 2 negatives 24 hours apart, she can return on Friday (her day 10 is Thursday).

*from Nursery yesterday outlining the updated guidelines and the changes they would be making

LefttoherownDevizes · 26/02/2022 11:04

our school have updated guidance which says for those with symptoms can return on day 6 if feeling better and day 5 and 6 lfts negative, if these are positive can only give in after 2 consecutive negatives or day 10, whichever is first as long as feeling better and no temp. Those who are asymptomatic just do day 5 and 6 tests and s king as negative come in.

DS positive week before half term so he and other DS (not Covid) off entire week before half term, DD just tested positive week after half term. Why they can't get it at once it's being me? They tag teamed chicken pox too, was solid 6 weeks of it

Scottishgirl85 · 26/02/2022 11:12

Sorry we're in England!
Seems mixed. I wish our school had guidance...

Is she well enough in herself to go in? If so send her in, people still test positive after 10 days

Wellbythebloodyhell · 26/02/2022 11:32

If she tests negative tomorrow and again on Monday morning she can go back to school assuming she's well enough in herself and no temperature of course

JanglyBeads · 26/02/2022 12:16

School really should have clarified. However it's reasonable to follow the previous guidance ie see if can get a negative tomorrow and Monday morning. There is huge variation as to how long LFTs are positive for.

NameChange30 · 26/02/2022 12:20

I would do LFTs tomorrow (Sunday) morning and first thing Monday morning, if both tests are negative (and if she is well) I would send her in.

Oysterbabe · 26/02/2022 12:53

If she feels well send her in.

CakeRabbit · 26/02/2022 18:44

She should only be going back to school if she tests negative two days in a row.

Hardtoknowwhat · 28/02/2022 20:27

My DD, year 9, tested positive yesterday. I called the absence line first thing and left a message. Had not heard back so called in at lunch to be told "if she's not feeling ill, then send her in".

I questioned this based on DoE guidance and the fact my elder DD's college (she's also positive) is still advising isolate and 2 negatives required. Receptionist then went away to check and said it had been confirmed she was right as "isolation has ended now".

It's all very frustrating.

VikingOnTheFridge · 28/02/2022 21:30

I would send her in if she's feeling well enough but not otherwise.

Scottishgirl85 · 01/03/2022 09:15

Negative on Day 7 and 8 so she's back today (Day 8). Thanks all!

Bizarre that they’re not following the guidance
