School run with Covid positive parents

In light of restrictions ending tomorrow would you drop your dc to school if Covid positive? For info me and dh tested positive on lfts today, have no one else to take dd to school tomorrow (no time to sort anything and school won’t open til 9am to ring and check). I feel ok apart from a bit of a headache which sleep will possibly fix. Obviously if I feel too unwell to leave the house tomorrow I’ll stay at home.

We drop off outdoors in the playground and wouldn’t speak to the teacher/anyone else. Tested dd also and she is negative. I’d keep her home to keep others safe but I know the rule for a long time has been children can still attend school if negative plus she recently had a week off with chickenpox so am reluctant to keep her off when she’s not unwell in the slightest.

What do you suggest? Do you think every mum or dad have a group of people who are dreaming to do the free drop offs/pick ups for us? OP’s child must go to school. Child’s absence will be recorded unauthorised if not in. What do you suggest? Will YOU help OP to drop her child to school?[/quote]
No I honestly don’t think it matters anymore . If parents are well enough they take the kids to school.
If the kids aren’t being tested a significant number if the colds will be Covid. People will be in work with Covid

Even now people aren’t testing.

@BetterBee

I don’t think that’s part of the changes I’m afraid! You still need to self isolate (just not legally enforceable if you don’t).

Just like you wouldn’t send a child to school with chicken pox

Yeah, it is. Neither the OP nor any household members need to isolate.

And yes of course it's fine OP. You'll be outside. We know how low risk that is and have for a long time now.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 24/02/2022 13:47

I would do it, yes.

Fairunibutterfly · 24/02/2022 13:47

Thanks everyone. As it is I have been in bed all day, sleeping on and off. Thanks ifonly4, I didn’t realise insomnia was a symptom, didn’t sleep much at all last night.

Oh could have taken dd in but dd was up in the night complaining of a sore throat so he’s kept her home and was going to ring the school about tomorrow.

This has really knocked me. I was just like normal last night and went downhill very quickly from 10pm. I don’t want to get out of bed now!

Parents have been doing this for months

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 24/02/2022 14:03

@DogsAndGin

Not at my kids school they haven’t. They’ve asked others to walk their kids in

The ones whose positive tests you know about have. You'd have no way of knowing about anyone who chose to keep it to themselves.

gogohm · 24/02/2022 15:05

Yes but I wouldn't go in the school grounds

Yeahbutnotreally · 24/02/2022 15:13

You don't need to self isolate. It's choice now

It’s guidance to isolate, i.e you should be isolating. It’s just no longer illegal not to isolate.

That means it's a choice. People get to decide, notwithstanding that some people couldn't if they wanted to although that isn't new.

How would you even know? I wouldn't be telling the parents at school the results of my Covid tests.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 24/02/2022 16:42

@Waxonwaxoff0

Cause we have a very vulnerable kid in our class so we have agreed to tell each other and the parents can decide to keep the kid home

OK. Still doesn't mean they will tell you the truth though.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 24/02/2022 16:47

@Waxonwaxoff0

Agreed, but I would like to think people would be honest when a kids life is at risk.

But I guess many wouldn’t even know they have it!

VikingOnTheFridge · 24/02/2022 18:12

And you're only talking about one class in a whole school there.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 25/02/2022 13:02

I will probably be in this position next week. We are all covid positive and isolating ATM, but DDs isolation will end before mine. Unless I'm feeling too ill myself, I will wear an FFP2 mask and walk DD to school (we don't have a car) even if I'm still testing positive. I'm fortunate that our school is in the middle of the heath and I can very easily keep away from everyone else. We don't go into the school grounds anyway to drop off or pick up.
