Travel restrictions from now on

What do you think the likelihood is of vaccine travel restrictions being put back in place for kids/teens for places like Spain?

We have a holiday booked for the summer and teen DS is unvaccinated. Completely his choice as he has needle phobia and is not worried about catching covid.

DH and I fully vaxed and our under 12 yr old obv not vaxed yet, but is it likely they will bring this in?

If another variant emerges and they bring in stricter rules and people haven't been vaxxed, will the holiday company be obliged to let you postpone the holiday?

I'm so confused with it all - not been abroad since 2019. Thanks.

I'm actually in Spain right now. Some bars and restaurants have signs outside requiring sight of a covid vaccine passport but no one has asked for one yet.

Tell your DS that the vaccine is not just to protect him, it's to protect everyone he comes into contact with. His opinion is a very selfish one.

no it isn't, it's to protect him from serious illness.

Are you saying we should stop giving MMR and everything else until people reach 18

The MMR is different because it more or less prevents illness altogether. The covid vaccine does not.

Not all areas in Spain request it. It’d not a nation wide requirement. I’d say only a handful of areas request it

Bear in mind that travel insurance policies have a get out clause - you need to have had all vaccines recommended on the schedule endorsed by the uk government (health body) to be insured.

If you have chosen not to have the covid jab, you may not be covered for covid related illness or other factors.

No it doesn't. Its effectiveness after 2 doses is approximately 97% for measles and rubella and 88% against mumps. The reason it appears to prevent it altogether is that there is not an epidemic of any of those illnesses so there isn't enough of it in the community to be apparent in the vaccinated.

The mRNA covid vaccines had similar levels of effectiveness against the earlier variants of covid. The fact measles mumps and rubella are less prone to mutation has resulted in longer lasting protection from a vaccine.

I think travel will become very very easy for vaccinated

There’s talk of EU signing off that all countries will allow vax in with no tests etc

I do think they’ll keep the more complicated unvax rules tho

I wouldn't worry about Spain backtracking. They're desperate for tourism bucks. And as for the eejit calling your son selfish, I hope you know that's her problem definitely not yours.

Juno22 · 23/02/2022 19:35

Spain are worried about tourist bucks, but not particularly British tourist bucks. Over the last couple of years they've seen even more tourists from Germany and Scandinavia and have invested in domestic tourism.

The Spanish people have experienced tough lockdowns and they don't want to see tourists given privileges they haven't had for themselves. So given they've had to show vaccine passports to buy a drink inside a bar or eat in a restaurant they won't be keen to welcome unvaccinated people.

Since Britain is the number one source of tourists visiting Spain, I'd imagine they are quite worried about British tourist bucks.
