A lovely question about coughing up green stuff

Just wondering if any of you have had this, coughing up loads of green phlegm?

Wondering if I need to speak to the GP for antibiotics or if it's a normal part of things.

When I get this, it's generally a bacterial upper respiratory infection, which does respond to antibiotics, or else gets better on its own.

I always thought lots of green phlegm was a sign you needed anti biotics.

Green = bacterial is a myth but you should get it checked out.

It doesn't necessarily mean you need antibiotics - if it's going on for longer than a week speak to your GP. If it's improving your body will clear it Ok. It's not uncommon to have this. GPs probably only likely to prescribe antibiotics if you have a wheezy or crackly chest ie definite lung infection

We’ve both been coughing up phlegm of a vast array of colours including green and sent pics to the gp as an econsult. They said it was normal and wait to see if it clears on its own or not…. Seems to be gradually improving now after almost a week.

Thanks - I suppose I'll give it another few days and see if it starts to go.

It's a myth that this means you need antibiotics. It's just your bodies immune system responding to the virus as it should. It will pass. It only lasted a couple of days for me.
