Omicron in children

Just wondering how long it typically takes older children to get over Omicron. We've had it this week and while my youngest had minimal symptoms and was fine within a day, my 9yo is still quite poorly 6 days in. Typical symptoms - low grade fever, very tired, coughing at night, headache, sore throat and her back has hurt a couple of times. She's ok, just can't seem to shake it and I thought she'd be better by now - virtually all her classmates have had it asymptomatically so perhaps she's just unlucky! How long did it take other children to get over it?

My dd is 9 and caught it a second time. She was quite bad first time round. Took a good 7 days before she was starting to want to get out of isolation. This time she started Wednesday and had a high temperature and crawly skin. She seems a lot better already on the Saturday. Rest of us bracing ourselves to see if catch it this time round. All 3 of our DC had it last time. Other DC and is still negative so far. Hope your dd is better soon.

How do you know you have Omicron...?

@CaptainGT I'm working on the assumption that any infections now are almost certainly Omicron, given how prevalent it is. So might present slightly differently in kids to earlier variants.

Also 6 days in 11 year old ds is starting to feel better but still tired achy and sore throat. He still doesn’t have much appetite but can eat now whereas before eating felt awful.

My 9yo tested positive for COVID at Christmas - no idea which strain but she was back to normal by day 4.

I really wish they'd tell you!

My 10 year old was poorly for about a week. It took the full 10 days for her to get back to her usual self, and she tired easily for a few more days after that. She's fine now. I was surprised by how poorly we both were.

I hope your DD feels better soon.

Most of the kids in our school who are testing positive (I'm not in the UK) are at home for 5 days, including the symptomatic ones, so more or less what you'd expect from a cold.
