Does you 5-11yr old have the flu vaccine? Do you feel differently about the covid jab?

And if so why?

Trying to think how I feel about it and unsure.

No to either. I've also never had a flu jab in my life and never had the flu.

Yes to flu nasal spray vax, not sure about Covid. It may largely depend on whether my child would do an actual needle vax. They had all other vax on their programme - but the last one on that was aged 3 and now at nearly 8 they are much harder to bribe with chocolate. I'm happy for them to have it, but I don't think I'd force them to do it if they really couldn't manage. DC has had Covid already.

yes to flu. My eldest caught swine flu and was seriously ill with pneumonia.

covid - i think so. she's just been infected though so need to wait 90 days.

Was ok about flu vax but my youngest reacted badly to one last year so didn’t have one this winter.

No to covid one, we all have had covid unvaxxed a couple of weeks ago and are fine. Kids have only been jabbed for a year or so, there is no lond term data there, it’s a fact

Ginandvomits · 17/02/2022 11:42

Yes. No

AllisoninWunderland · 17/02/2022 19:04

My CV transplant DD has the flu vaccine (needle not nasal) every winter. Her consultants insist. The rest of the family have to have it too to protect her.

They’ve not even mentioned the Covid vaccine once since it became a thing. She had Covid recently and was poorly for a few days but overall fine.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 17/02/2022 19:10

DD missed the flu vaccine this year at school and I've not arranged for her to have it separately. She's had it other years but the risk to her is tiny. I am 38, never had flu vaccines (don't think the nasal flu spray was a thing when I was a kid, definitely never had as an adult) and I've never had the flu.

I will put her down for the fu vaccine at school next winter as it's no effort from us and it has had no side effects up to now.

COVID vaccine I'm very uncertain. Children aren't at risk. No-one in her family is at risk. The numbers are already low enough for us to be dropping restrictions, testing and isolation soon. What is the point of children having the vaccine?

Veryvversatile · 17/02/2022 20:03

No and never.

I would consider flu, I am not totally against it, but in our family none of us have ever had the flu and none of us have been jabbed. Therefore didn't see why I would give it to my child.

I do not predict a very high uptake with the Covid vaccine for 5-11s in the UK. Majority of parents I know are fully vaccinated but they are adamant their children won't have it.

Unless authorities threaten travel bans of prohibit unvaccinated children from going to school. I hope it never comes to that, but it could.

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 18/02/2022 10:14

Yes they have flu vaccine and yes will have covid vaccine too.

DrGoogleSaysSo · 18/02/2022 10:39

Yes to nasal flu. No to covid. My DC had covid and were asymptomatic so I'm not inclined to get them vaccinated yet.

actiongirl1978 · 18/02/2022 10:56

No flu vax. Yes to Cov vax.

We can't go on holiday without the cov vax. He throws up with the nasal vax.

I've never felt he was at risk from flu or cov, but cov vax is needed to travel.

Springhere · 20/02/2022 22:15

Yes to flu and no to covid. I feel that flu poses a greater risk to my primary aged dc than covid. I would change my mind if a variant came along that posed more of a risk to children.
