Worsening symptoms and loss of sense of taste day 9?!

I’m on day 9 of symptoms but only day 4 after a positive test. My DD tested positive two weeks ago so I know the start of symptoms were the start of covid. Second time around for me.

The last two days I seem to have been getting worse. More Headaches, stuffy nose running like a tap, ear ache. And today the delightful new symptom of no taste or smell!

I thought that was an early in symptom? And why am I getting worse nearly 10 days in? I’ve had 2 x vaccinations, covid and a booster (in that order). You’d think my body would be prepped to fight it off easily seeing as I’m in my 30s with no underlying conditions.

I feel way worse this time than when I had it end of last year. Anyone else?

I'm day 7 with worsening symptoms and loss of sense of taste and smell. I think it's because it's all in my sinuses. Hoping for improvement tomorrow.

Mine was similar, started off pretty mild, got steadily worse by about day 5-6, thought I was getting better then by day 11-12 it was like a whole new illness starting again! Still feel pretty tired and achey after about 3 weeks. I wasn’t vaxxed, but don’t seem to have had it much worse than many others I know who had all 3.

And yes the sense of smell and taste went pretty late in the game and still hasn’t come back Sad

KronkeyCroc · 16/02/2022 10:28

Oh no @RoyKentsChestHair how long have you been without it? I love food. This is totally devastating! I haven’t lost it completely. I can smell things faintly and taste sweet and salt. No horrible tastes. Yet anyway.

Just have to hope I improve soon. Not fun trying to work.

About 3 weeks now Sad. I’m also a big foodie and actually work as a baker so it’s been really annoying - I hadn’t realised how often I sniff things, even just to check the milk is ok it sniffing chicken even if it’s in date as I’ve had a couple of bad experiences of meat not being ok even when in date! I love food and it would be soul destroying to never get it back - I know a guy who used to work as a chef but lost his sense of smell and taste permanently many years ago, so had to give it up. I’ve always thought how sad that would be. I do get the odd whiff now and then - yesterday I made a coffee and smelled it momentarily! When I drunk it I couldn’t taste or smell a thing but it gives me hope that something is still in there!

Only bonus is not being able to tell if the litter box needs sorting so the kids have to deal with that when they notice Grin

Oh dear the no taste smell thing worries me really don’t want that! I’m day 6 and today out of nowhere sudden make head cold symptoms nose running like a tap can’t stop sneezing and too bunged up to smell anything anyway so can’t tell if that’s affected. Before today I have had body aches and fatigue and a strange heart racing feeling with bad sleep and night sweats. Such a weird virus. Was hoping I’d be on the mend now but getting steadily worse for sure.

YogaLite · 16/02/2022 12:30

day 7, sinuses bunged up, in fact that's quite recent as I had thought I was getting better.

@RoyKentsChestHair
So what does the 11/12 covid return feel like, is it a cough/temp/sinuses again? Or something different?

RoyKentsChestHair · 16/02/2022 13:04

I didn’t really have a temp throughout, but yes turned more sinus-y, the smell/taste part seems to happen about day 9/10, still achey and tired - maybe it was more noticeable because at 10 days I felt like I should be feeling better, but was still worn out by doing the washing up or making dinner etc.

I mean it’s conceivable it’s a totally different virus but I’ve read lots of people saying the same - they thought it was over and then got a second wave of it. And given that I obviously hadn’t left the house in between times, I don’t know where I’d have picked it up as nobody else has anything similar.

balzamico · 16/02/2022 13:37

I'm day 10 and after feeling much better from day 5 to yesterday, I had to have a nap again and didn't feel at all great last night - fatigue and light headedness.
Today I'm headachey & have a residual cough and some catarrh but I do have my taste and smell.
I'm just trying to pace myself and not celebrate my freedom by doing too much - yet more Olympics for me!!

WarriorN · 16/02/2022 14:20

Yes I felt ok on day 8 after pretty bad flu like symptoms. Then went steadily downhill over the next few days.

I then had an awful exhaustion/ fatigue /drugged feeling for a full two weeks from day 11. Some chest / asthma issues, nerves felt weird, tingling, numb and tongue especially. Today has been the first day I feel able to stay awake (touches wood). Even yesterday afternoon the tiredness had hit by now! Mixed with insomnia and night sweats.

I've been unable to work and was signed off this week. If I stay like this now I'll be fine to work on Monday, which will be 4 weeks.

X 3 vax

WarriorN · 16/02/2022 14:22

I will add that the first vax I had caused mild headaches and tiredness daily for 2 weeks and then lingering tiredness for another two so I do wonder if that's how my body deals with this. Omicron is quite different to the original one and so vax aren't quite as effective with the actual symptoms. I believe it does help with not being admitted to hospital.
