Anyone work at a walk in vax centre (not bookable one)

Hi

I'm after getting my ds his second dose at 8 weeks (hes 16) instead of 12 weeks.

GP won't get involved in vaccinations even though online says they can be offered it at 8 weeks for non-essential travel reasons (this meets this criteria).

Do walk in centres have access to your previous vax records (i know they can't see covid test record)?

Has anyone find a way round this?

Online says they can have it but says speak to nurse or doctor - they won't get involved and just say go online to book but online defaults to 12 weeks?

thanks

It doesn't state that at all , it states work or essential travel
Wigeon · 14/02/2022 20:17

You need to convince the vaccinator or their clinical supervisor that the travel is essential. You might need to bring some proof.

What is the essential reason?

Watapalava · 14/02/2022 20:17

I write my post wrong

I mean essential travel

I asked gp to do it because we have a family member undergoing chemo who’s in bad way

May not be dying but in bad way none the less

We want to go at Easter and being single vax has issues once in the country

Ok so the trip is essential to you. But would any reasonable person say it was an essential trip?

To me that means to go to a very close family member's funeral, see a very close family member who is terminally ill etc. I don't think 'we have had an Easter trip to Country X booked for 8 months and now they won't let my son in' is an essential reason.

Watapalava · 14/02/2022 20:19

It’s just annoying because it doesn’t need to be this hard

Everywhere else in world is 3 week gap between doses

Meanwhile here we jump through a million hoops

The relative may not die but I’d still like to visit whilst they are seriously ill

Yes, if you have proof they might do it.
We had someone (adult) who's mother was dying overseas & in order to travel she needed to have her second dose slightly early. This was done after discussion with the GP though.

Watapalava · 14/02/2022 20:20

GP defo are doing it as I can name 6-7 teens I know right now who got early vax to go on a school trip! It’s just that mine won’t get involved in vaccinations so I can’t go down that route.

So they can get in the country with one vax but won't be able to go out for dinner after seeing the sick relative?

Does the sick relative want to see a partially vaccinated child who won't be isolating in between visits? I wouldn't.

The guidance is there for safety reasons, not to annoy you.

Watapalava · 14/02/2022 20:22

You can’t check into hotels in some countries being single vax

You also have to isolate

I'm so sorry your family Is in this predicament OP, I think your only hope as PP said is to convince the vaccinator but in my experience it would take an awful lot to convince a vaccinator to give a 2nd dose early, especially in a child. They could potentially lose their vaccinator licence for not following guidance.
CraftyGin · 14/02/2022 20:25

Yes, they see your vaccination records, as well as results from PCR tests.

If the computer says no, then he will have to wait.

Watapalava · 14/02/2022 20:29

They defo cannot see pcr

Both my dc had first dose 4 weeks after covid and not 12 weeks as per the guidance at the time

Not the PCR test results, I can assure you. There is a question about whether they have had Covid symptoms or a positive test in the last 4 weeks, but nothing else.

RagzRebooted · 14/02/2022 20:53

We were allowed to give a week early, for some due to go on ski trips as the guidelines said could be shorter gap in times of high incidence, which is what it was at the time. We only cut off a week though, not sure we'd have been able to do it at 8. The interval is set to reduce the risk of myocarditis, I was a little surprised so many parents were happy to increase the risk in order to send their children skiing... Hmm

MargeIsBack · 15/02/2022 09:42

They definitely don't see Covid records, my DC had their 2nd dose 3 weeks after Covid. They didn't even ask about Covid either, they were only concerned that they were 12 weeks from the first jab.

MegaClutterSlut · 15/02/2022 17:49

Bit late to the party but I had my 2nd jab today and the receptionist typed in my name and told the nurse when my last jab was so they will know when he was last jabbed
