Post covid breathlessness

Chillyjam · 13/02/2022 14:31

Just wondering if others have had/had/recovered from post covid breathlessness I am 3 weeks post covid and really struggling with breathlessness. It feels as though my airway is to narrow to breath in deeply, also feels like I have someone sat on my chest, preventing me from breathing deeply.
I am in my 30’s with no underlying issues
Thanks

I am only 17 days past testing positive, so watching with interest, as I'm breathless and wheezy. I'm a singer, and strangely enough I am fine when I am singing, although my voice is shot to pieces, but I can breathe, so I am concentrating on doing that little and often, so as not to wreck my vocal chords while they heal. My dad said mucus hardens in the lungs after such a virus and that's what causes the breathlessness as you can't get enough oxygen. When singing I use my diaphragm for breathing, so this is why singing helps. It's worth learning some diaphragm breathing exercises.

Yes, I was exactly the same for about 4-5 weeks. It’s a really horrid feeling.
Oddly enough I didn’t have a cough when I had covid, though it did kick my asthma off and make me wheeze.
I hope you feel better soon x

Same here, I'm breathless going up the stairs in the house. I'm nearly 4 months post covid. The doctor has referred me to see a cardiologist as my heart is also racing.

DD has asthma and has been worse since covid and had new symtoms of heart racing and aching - was very bad after her first vaccine . She's 5 months on.

I was dealing with breathlessness and aches in my chest for well over a year following covid; was just starting to improve more. Just had it again - I'm just over 3 weeks post covid the second time - and have breathlessness issues all over again.

Thanks for the replies
@delilahbucket I feel your dad is speaking some truth, my partner post covid got a ‘wet’ chest coughed up loads of crap and has been much better/recovered quicker. Whereas I am still struggling, I will Google diaphragm exercises.

@nellytheelephant1980 @tootyfruitypickle I don’t have asthma but my friend that does it really triggered hers. I hope your daughters settles soon

@ParkheadParadise hopefully you are okay and the cardiologist gives you the all clear

@Abraxan hopefully this doesn’t last for another year

Thanks everyone for the responses, hopefully we will all recover quickly

Yes. I'm about 6 weeks in and I can barely walk from one room to another without getting out of breath. I have a very high pulse rate too. But no chance of being seen until mid-March at the earliest I've been told...

Fingers crossed you get the all clear.

I was referred after a few months, had some tests, did a 48 hour ecg thing, and was cleared. I've previously had ablation for SVT before all this so there were some concerns that may be failing too, but all appears to be fine. Even now I do have an increased heart rate and some palpitations, esp if under the weather, but nothing dangerous or concerning based on the tests.

Fingers crossed yours is found to be okay and that the symptoms reduce over time

I found it came and went for quite a long time afterwards - antihistamines helped, as did getting back in the gym and making my lungs 'work'. It was probably a year before I felt back to normal again.

There is a good NHS website called Your Post Covid Recovery, includes advice on managing breathlessness and fatigue with some breathing exercises.
Practice long slow breath in through nose right down to your stomach and even slower out through mouth.

Here's another one
