Proof of recovery for travel

I’m triple vaccinated and on day 8 of covid currently. Due to fly at the end of this month, where I’ll need a PCR on arrival - as we know this could result in a positive result due to my current infection, despite not actually having covid by then.

According to their guidelines if this happens, I just need to give them proof that I have had covid within the last 90 days in the form of a recovery certificate or similar, official of course.

So, how do I get this!? Will something appear on the NHS app to show I’ve recovered? Will the positive PCR lab result suffice?

They have said the following, but surely anyone could type up an email and use it as “proof” ?? Anyone been in a similar situation?

“Such proof is the older positive test result and other certificates you may have (from a competent authority) . They will be evaluated for quarantine exemption.”

Hi OP, you'll get a COVID recovery pass in your NHS app. I think mine came through after 10 days exactly.

Whathefisgoingon · 13/02/2022 17:04

@Ploddingalong67 thanks. And that shows you had covid? A relative had a pass but it just showed proof of vaccination despite having had covid.

Ploddingalong67 · 13/02/2022 17:07

You'll get it alongside all of your vaccinations. So I now have first, second and third vaccination doses and then a separate QR code for COVID recovery. It states when you tested positive so assume that should be ok.

Wartywart · 13/02/2022 17:16

Do you get the QR for Covid recovery if you didn't go for a PCR test? If you just tested positive on an lft and reported that?

Orangesandlemons82 · 13/02/2022 17:18

We are in Canada at the moment and had a similar situation for our children. I went to the GP and got a print out of their PCR lab result and they stamped it. That has been accepted and we have had no problems using that. Not sure if it is the same for all countries.

Whathefisgoingon · 13/02/2022 17:33

@Wartywart I’m not sure but it was due to this worry that we did go for follow up PCR’s

If you recorded a positive pcr on your app, after 10 days you get a new qr code and the date of your test is recorded on it

funday · 13/02/2022 21:09

See what it says on your airline FAQs. We just had this problem - we had to pay ~£100 for a Covid19 recovery certificate to be issued by a GP. If you google covid recovery certificate there are quite a few companies doing them.
The certificate was checked at the airport along with the Nhs email confirming the positive case and all was fine to fly. This was Singapore airlines.

AnyFucker · 13/02/2022 22:26

It’s not your airline that make the rules, it’s your country of destination

Abraxan · 13/02/2022 22:32

@Wartywart

Do you get the QR for Covid recovery if you didn't go for a PCR test? If you just tested positive on an lft and reported that?
They only appear if you had a PCR. As LFTs are self administered and self reported they couldn't be used for an official record, open to too much abuse.
Abraxan · 13/02/2022 22:36

The recovery certificate will appear 10 days after the date of your PCR (not your symptom or LFT date) and appears on the last page of your travel pass. It shows the date of your PCR test with a qr code.

Check the requirements of where you are visiting.

Some places, even if they allow recovery certificates, won't accept the digital version and you have to have an authorised letter from a health professional or authorised provider. Most GPS won't give these for free so you'd have to pay to have one.

If you use the nhs site for a travel pass it does not include your recovery from covid pass.

Canyoujustgotobedplease · 13/02/2022 22:37

Go on to the covid pass section on the nhs app and click on the travel bit.
You can generate a recovery pass there, it will last 1 month from when you get it and after that you can generate a new one.

AnyFucker · 13/02/2022 22:43

You don’t “generate” a covid qr code. It appears 10 days after registering a positive pcr test. That is it.

Abraxan · 13/02/2022 23:25

Not all countries will accept the digital one, whether on screen or printed. Only an authorised and approved letter is accepted. For example, the us asks for this.
Kitkat151 · 13/02/2022 23:27

There is no code .....it is just documented on your NHS app...the date of your positive pcr

Abraxan · 13/02/2022 23:43

Mine very much has a qr code on it. It has the same format as the vaccines.

Attached a picture of mine, but with the qr code covered (just in case it could be used by scammers etc, not sure)

AnyFucker · 14/02/2022 00:15

Same as mine

Whathefisgoingon · 14/02/2022 06:20

@Abraxan Worryingly, it doesn’t appear to have a persons name on it? The code is all wel and good for domestic purposes but for travel I’m thinking it could be a problem?

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 14/02/2022 07:59

The name is on there

Whathefisgoingon · 14/02/2022 08:02

@AnyFucker yes I realised that as soon as I posted that.

Too early!

Tigerblue · 14/02/2022 08:11

My qr code appeared on my last day of isolation, after my three vaccine codes.

Whathefisgoingon · 14/02/2022 12:26

Thanks. Since the country I’m travelling to has said a previous test result is adequate then I assume the App document will be sufficient.

I cropped my name and personal details out. It's at the top above the qr code, same as on your vaccine record ones.
