I have to visit my practise nurse for wound change but am currently self isolating. Would they be able to see me ?

Contact them first

If it absolutely can't be left/dressed at home for a few more days until the day 5/6 negative tests then they may be able to do it in a 'hot hub' if they have suitable area for this, but not all surgeries would be able to. Depending on how urgent it is, as a practice nurse I would be willing do this as obviously you still need healthcare and we can't (shouldn't!) refuse it if it's urgent.

Sometimes you can do it yourself.
Is it the first/last one? Does it feel/look ok? Do you have supplies?

Tdcp · 12/02/2022 22:49

They have things in place for circumstances such as this, you need to contact them and tell them the situation so the can advise you on what their guidelines are.

Nitgel · 12/02/2022 22:53

I will call them Monday. I don't have supplies or know what I am doing really. I think it will need a few appointments as a packed wound.

Yes you can but it will be controlled such as at the very end of the day and using a different entrance.

chiickenandchiips · 12/02/2022 23:03

I don't actually know the answer, but I would hope they would still allow the appointment to go ahead in these circumstances.

Double up on masks, face shields, full ppe, if possible an outdoor appointment? Chairs and supplies could be brought on a trolley outside the clinic.

A fully vaccinated, not CEV medical professional should be accommodating if the appointment not going ahead could be seriously detrimental to someone's health.

Seems a bit extreme seeing as in a few more weeks there will be no requirement to even isolate, and for most it's no worse an illness than a cold.

I had a home visit for stitches after an operation when I had covid. Windows open, both double masked, in an out as quickly as possible. It couldn't be delayed as needed doing on about day 3 when it was still 10 days isolation.

countrylady2 · 13/02/2022 01:05

The nurse should wear an N99 mask if it is unavoidable.

olympicsrock · 13/02/2022 01:07

Of course they will. We healthcare professionals still deliver heath care of you had covid. Don’t worry . It’s an everyday issue

Madmog · 13/02/2022 08:26

Phone them first. Given hospitals are treating and keeping people in who have Covid, I can't see why they wouldn't. They can't risk infection and need to encourage healing, so it's essential. It isn't too difficult to clean and pack a wound if you can reach it, but they'd need to show you first.

I wouldn't say it's extreme as the patient would be confirmed covid positive and at the moment it is still the expectation that people isolate.
