Hi

Looking for advice

Been trying to conceive for little over a year and have put off getting any COVID jabs due to the discussion at the beginning of the jabs possibly affecting fertility. I'm a bit nervous to go and get it but partially want my human rights back(e.g go on holiday!) I do many opinions on this but would like other peoples experience with fertility or periods before and after jabs before I take the plunge

The first one did make my period late, however Covid is more dangerous in pregnancy so I think worth it. I know what hell ttc is and how it messes with you however.

theotherfossilsister · 12/02/2022 11:32

I had the third vaccine during IVF and am currently twelve weeks pregnant.

GiantSpider · 12/02/2022 11:37

Hi OP, there is no evidence that the vaccines affect fertility, there is lots of data about this:

TheApexOfMyLife · 12/02/2022 11:39

All the studies have shown that having the jab doesn’t make any difference in outcome re fertility.

What they have found though is that men getting covid impacts their fertility for several months!

TheApexOfMyLife · 12/02/2022 11:40

And YY about the very increased risk if you get covid in pregnancy especially in the 3rd trimester.

I’d go for it @apwilso

Tinkles78 · 12/02/2022 11:48

I had irregular periods before the vaccines anyway, and I didn't notice any difference afterwards! I actually conceived 2 weeks after my booster jab so evidently it didn't affect me in that way at all. Given the seriousness of covid in late pregnancy being well documented, I would always have the jab.

Whathefisgoingon · 12/02/2022 11:51

This was a conspiracy theory and nothing more. I know several vaccinated and pregnant, and others vaccinated once pregnant.

TheApexOfMyLife · 12/02/2022 12:06

I wouldn’t say that saying there was a potential problem with the vaccine for pregnant woman/fertility as a conspiracy theory.

When the vaccine was first rolled out, IVF clinics were telling women to NOT have the vaccines because we didn’t know.
Since then the advice has changed. It doesn’t mean that the original advice didn’t have good grounds to it.

That’s the strength of science btw. The ability to change its advice as it’s learning more.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 12/02/2022 12:18

I have a family member who is currently pregnant, she's had all the vaccines.

RosettaTheGardenFairy · 12/02/2022 13:29

I also chose not to get the vaccine incase it impacted fertility. I'm now 28 weeks pregnant and have had to have 2 vaccines during pregnancy due to known 3rd trimester risk. On reflection, I wish I'd been fully vaccinated before I got pregnant; I wish I'd not needed the vaccines while pregnant.

My sister had 2 doses, got pregnant, had booster at 9 weeks. All scans/tests etc showing a healthy baby. She's now 20 weeks.

This is the latest news I've read few days ago. If you are planning to get pregnant, definitely worth getting vaccinated to protect yourself and the baby.

Am HCP and holding my baby who is 10 days old. Vaccinated twice pre pregnancy and boosted in pregnancy. Many many colleagues in same position and no evidence whatsoever that vaccine affects fertility. Strong evidence however that getting covid during pregnancy if unvaccinated is risky to both you and the baby.

Catch32 · 12/02/2022 14:09

I had first vaccine about 4 weeks before I conceived, delayed (probably unnecessarily) getting second vaccine until I was 20 weeks and then had to wait three months to get my booster at 32 weeks.

If I were you I'd get going with the vaccines now so you're fully protected for the winter in the event you get pregnant this year, as you have to factor in all the spacing out between jabs.

Best of luck with the baby making. X

NeedAHoliday2021 · 12/02/2022 14:10

If you catch covid even pregnant you get provided with an oxygen monitor, daily blood clot injections to administer yourself and a daily midwife call. This is because covid is very dangerous for pregnant women. The make up of the vaccine means there’s no scientific way it could effect fertility so the advice is to get vaccinated asap.

Mufflette · 12/02/2022 14:10

Had a slightly delayed period after each of the first two jabs but conceived first try 4 months after the second one. Had booster at 4/5 weeks and I've just had my 12 week scan with everything looking very healthy and normal!

titchy · 12/02/2022 14:13

If fertility was affected we'd have seen a decline in the birth rate. We haven't.

I wouldn't rely on anecdotes when there is good quality evidence demonstrating the vaccines do not effect fertility and that pregnant women are strongly recommend to be vaccinated due to the risks of severe illness which requires hospitilisation and preterm birth.

This is a good summary from a reproductive immunologist from Imperial College London:

Thanks to everyone whose comment I appreciate your experiences and comments. I've just been a bit wary about the whole situations of what it or what's if it's me etc x
