How quickly are people re-catching Covid?

My husband and I have tested positive this morning. Our girls had positive Covid tests on the 18th and 19 of January so we thought we had escaped it once three weeks had passed.

If we haven't got it from them, but another source, are they at risk of catching it again from us?

Their CEV grandad is willing to look after them while we are ill as "they aren't a risk, they've already had it" but is that actually true?

My son had it this Christmas and caught it again two weeks ago.. so 6 weeks apart.. I caught it from him (I presume) the first time but not the second .

In Germany you are exempt from quarantine for 90 days after catching covid, if that helps.

Thank you. It's so confusing - under Germany's laws @shivermetimbers77 son should have been fine then, but obviously that wasn't the case!

DS had it mid November then again last week - he wasn't symptomatic either time.

I know quite a few people who had it before Christmas and are now catching it again. This article suggestions that reinfection is more frequent with omicron and can happen after a month…

DD has it for second time in 8 weeks. Extremely mild symptoms both times.

DD caught it 5 and a half weeks after her first positive test (and was really ill both times). The timing, however, suggested that she probably had Delta first time and Omicron the second - the data just doesn't seem to be there yet for Omicron reinfection, which is fair enough as it's only been around a short time! I'm really concerned about DD getting it again as she's CV so we've been offered vaccination but she's still got 10 weeks till she's ok to have it post-Covid...

DD (10) first tested positive on 16th Dec, then again on Monday, so just under 8 weeks. Rest of the household (fully vaxxed), who all caught it from her in Dec, seem to avoided it this time around (hopefully).

Maybe the LFT is suspect PCR needed to confirm.

It’s hard to know at this point - a lot of the people catching again within 1 or 2 months might be Delta and then Omicron. For most people you will never know what strain you had / have …
Anecdotally I know a lot of people who caught in November / December and then January but it’s pretty likely that it’s just an unfortunate consequence of catching one variant as it goes away and then the next variant straight away. Isn’t that the assumption with Keir Starmer who had it twice recently?

If they had it mid Jan you’d think it was almost certainly Omicron.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 11/02/2022 12:39

7 weeks for dd1. Fortunately dd2 & I have avoided it both times despite not actively isolating her away.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/02/2022 13:07

I had Delta in August. Haven't had Omicron yet despite being a close contact.

ErinAoife · 11/02/2022 13:21

My friend so got covid just before Christmas he wasn't vaccinated as only 8, got it agai around mid January (so around 5 weeks later). Both time, mold symptoms.

2boysand1princess · 12/02/2022 09:51

We had it just before Xmas and then mid January. However, I do feel it must’ve been delta then omricon. I really hope you can’t catch the same strain again so quickly.
