Is it still the case that those with covid are taking a turn for the worse around day 7-10?

Just wondering if this is still the case. I know it was previously.
I’m on day 6…so I’m sort of on edge a lot at the moment. Waiting for something bad to happen.

The paramedics who saw me recently said it was much sooner now, within a few days. However, I did feel very ill for two weeks, and then terrible headaches for a further week. Do you have an O2 monitor? They told me that I needed that and if dropped to go to hospital. Super cheap on Amazon now.

Covid also completely affected my brain, huge anxiety from nowhere, so that could be a factor in how you feel.

Whynotnowbaby · 10/02/2022 07:04

The majority of those I know who have had it recently had few or no symptoms and recovered within two or three days.

My oxygen is 99%

I’m a little more worried than most because I’ve only had one vaccine. I had a bad reaction to it so was advised not to have anymore.

Because I’m technically unvaxxed Covid (I’m assuming omicron) has really hit me hard. I’ve got a chesty cough and very very tired. Also my temp hasn’t gone back to its proper normal…usually it runs about 36.5, but my temp has been consistently 37-37.2 since my actual fever disappeared on Sunday.

Do you mean, if it's going to get bad does it happen at those days. Or does everyone with covid take a turn for the worse at those days? You seem to be asking the latter which is a huge no, as most people don't take a turn for the worse. I was better by day 3, people I know might have had lingering symptoms but nothing to write home about. If it's the first question, they're few in number so I've not heard of any. But my understanding is the illness progresses more quickly, so that would suggest a turn for the worse that late is unlikely.

@AlexandraEiffel i meant the first one, if you are going to become very ill does it still happen between days 7 and 10 like it used to do?

I don’t know if anyone who took a turn for the worse on any day.

Googlemaps · 10/02/2022 07:21

@Sparklingbrook I think I’m more on edge because I’m not vaccinated, due to an adverse reaction when I had the first one unfortunately.

I know what you're talking about OP. I think the turn was more associated with the original Wuhan strain rather than delta and Omicron. Plus even one vaccine will offer you some protection.

bunfighters · 10/02/2022 10:08

One vaccine actually offers you a lot of protection against serious illness and death. That is great news about your oxygen. If you do struggle to get better, there is an awful lot more doctors can do now than a year ago. You are very, very unlikely to end up being ventilated for instance. Don't panic and try and rest as much as you can. If you think you are getting worse or developing a secondary chest infection etc. then ring your GP.

Icanseeclearlynow12 · 10/02/2022 10:11

This happened to me with the original covid, feeling slightly better on day 7 then took a turn for the worse with breathlessness etc. I haven't heard about this being a thing with Omicron so try not to worry x

Arcadia · 10/02/2022 10:12

Omicron doesn't seem to be attacking the lungs in the same way, so although you could get a secondary chest infection the Covid itself doesn't seem to be as bad for the lungs now. I know someone completely unvaxxed who has just had it really mildly, like a cold. This has been the case for everyone I know who has had omicron.

HoneyFlowers · 10/02/2022 10:18

I've just had Covid, I felt okay when I had it, but then on day 10 symptoms like breathing got far worse and I am still struggling three weeks on.

Juniper68 · 10/02/2022 10:21

I was unvaxxed when I got it. Didn't get worse I was ok. Dh is unvaxxed he just had it wasn't Ill just a cough and lost sense of smell for 2 days. Other unvaxxed friends have had it and all fine.

WorryMcGee · 10/02/2022 10:47

I’m 29 weeks pregnant and on day 4 of Covid. Had two jabs before I was pregnant but no booster. Last weekend I went to a hen party where 12 of us stayed in a house - we didn’t go anywhere else, except Parkrun which was outside obviously, and all tested negative twice before we went; the last test was taken a couple of hours before we met up. We believe one of us had it already but the test didn’t pick it up; timing wise it makes the most sense (and one of the husbands tested positive just before we got home). All of us except the two that had it after Christmas woke up feeling snotty and tested positive on Monday morning. One is completely unvaccinated, two of us didn’t have the booster, the remaining 8 are triple jabbed. We have all had the same cold like symptoms on the same days, and all felt pretty much fine again when we woke up this morning. I’ve even managed a workout! If it wasn’t for the line on the test this morning I wouldn’t know I had anything.

I had Covid in March 2020 as well and I recovered fine, but it knocked me for six for about a week and I was tired for about a fortnight after isolation ended. This time around the worst thing about it was not being able to take Sudafed on day 2! Get well soon and try not to worry.

FredBair · 10/02/2022 10:50

I think that was the case with Delta. I started to feel ill on day 5 but got very much worse on day 10.
Omicron seems to act faster.

piglet81 · 10/02/2022 10:59

Sorry you’re having a worrying time - I can see why you feel concerned having only been able to have one vaccination, but that will still be a big help. Do you have anything you can do to take your mind off things - good book/box set/podcast/jigsaws/colouring book/crosswords…? Hope you feel better soon.

NrlySp · 10/02/2022 11:04

If it helps my 1 vax friend (also due to adverse reaction) for Covid. It was super mild. Actually less than me and im vaccinated.
Try to be calm and distract yourself with enjoyable activities
