Sending child to school when covid is in the house

Have people done this? DD has covid. DS doesn’t, sent DS to back to school after initially keeping him off for 4 days. He’s now got it and feel terrible as most likely will spread in his class. I was so anxious about whether to send him or not but people kept saying he may not get it anyway

Of course most of us do, it's that or risk fines for unauthorised absence.

Yes

When they changed the rules we made a decision as a family that if one of us had it we would all isolate. My eldest son has a CEV friend in his class. I don't want to be the reason someone catches it and becomes very unwell.

Our boys caught it at the same time, I can work from home and they told DH he was fine to isolate, his patients are vulnerable and don't need to catch it either.

Lucky you that you don't need to be at work to earn your salaries and that your children can afford time off school - hopefully they not in exam years!

Unfortunately many people cannot afford to isolate, especially when not even tested positive Shock

Wow. How can you manage that around work and schooling? Also the fact that kids are getting it multiple times now?!

You haven't done anything wrong, you followed the goverment guidelines. When DD tested positive I sent DS's to school and they managed 2 days before they both tested positive on a lateral flow which is unfortunate but i didn't break the rules. It's just one of those things, none of us have a crystal ball to predict. There's been many people who share a house with others who have tested positive and they don't get it.

Testing will be gone in 6 weeks. PHE know this is an issue and are only stopping siblings going in, contrary to governement guidelines, if there is a particularly significant outbreak going on in a school.

Chances are you child picked it up from someone in school to begin with anyway!

We haven't sent our son as the other three in our house are positive and he only has 4 days left of term. If my husband or I was negative we would have carried on taking him though.
The school where fine about it as they can't realistically expect you to ask your friend to take a potentially covid positive child to school and back every day.
