Covid symptoms but not covid?!

Has anyone got this awful cold/viral thing/flu going around that’s NOT covid? I literally have every covid symptom and I’ve been in bed /on the couch since Saturday. Zero energy, breathless if I do anything, hacking cough, sweats, shivery, sore throat, pounding headache and really congested. Totally lost my sense of smell but can still taste slightly. My LFT and pcr came back negative. I’ve isolated anyway as I’ve been too ill to do anything!

Its called the common cold.... Why is everyone so surprised that this still exists 😐
The common cold does not make a 13 year old pass out make his teeth chatter so much he bit his own lip I could go on but it's obviously pointless

No it doesn't. But a non Covid virus put my son in hospital on oxygen last year. They are still a thing.

YayaTata · 10/02/2022 09:09

Obviously I should have questioned the multiple negative PCRs he did both before and in hospital because it couldn't possibly have been anything other!

Cold symptoms come on gradually and can include:
a blocked or runny nose
a sore throat
headaches
muscle aches
coughs
sneezing
a raised temperature
pressure in your ears and face
loss of taste and smell

Most people mistake a small case of "the sniffles" for a cold. It can actually be quite debilitating and could easily cause someone to pass out via a high temp or inner ear imbalance

@YayaTata

I don't get these threads. Did none of you get ill before Covid? It's really not that shocking that you could have symptoms of Covid (which are the same symptoms as lots of other viral illnesses) and it not be Covid.

I've had some virus or another practically every year of my life at least once. These past two have been no different, I've still been ill with other things.

Of course. But this is now the third time I’ve felt like this since November, this month definitely being the worst. Before covid came along I’ve never had a cold so bad I’ve not been able to get out of bed for a week. Sure I’ve had the flu a couple of times in the last few years, but even then it’s nothing like this.

Had it before Christmas and it lingered for weeks, I'd feel better for a couple days and then bang back to square one. Took countless pcrs and lfts all negative.

I'm assuming how bad it was was at least partly because it was the first time my immune system had been challenged in almost 2 years. And tbh I wished it was covid, everyone I know who had covid at the same time recovered within a week

You may not have had it this bad before but it doesn't mean that you never would have. Flu can be awful. It's not shocking that it's not Covid.

This is what I said. Most people I’ve known who’ve had covid have had very mild symptoms or even asymptomatic and been over it within a week. Then there’s me over here feeling like Death warmed up for the third time in 4 months. Ive ordered some floradix tonic - hoping that might give me a boost!

Yep 2 weeks ago felt awful. LFT and Pcr all negative. A week and a bit later I get cold symptoms and test positive for covid. Felt worse with the first one.

DoctorSnortles · 10/02/2022 11:44

It's worth getting a PCR if you can. They are more sensitive at picking up the virus. I was testing negative on LFT despite sharing my Covid positive daughter's symptoms. PCR came back positive but it took another day for it to show up on LFT.

Rupertpenrysmistress · 10/02/2022 11:55

Me too I had all of these symptoms as did my DH. My dd had covid at this time too. Negative lateral flow for me and DH but had PCR so I could go into work but both negative.

I was convinced we had covid especially due to dd, however I think we do forget all other non covid viruses. This is clearly what we had. But it was horrible, I had 2 really awful days and it is still lingering now on day 11. Hope you all feel better soon.
