Private Covid vaccine for children?

whittingtonmum · 08/02/2022 21:03

Does anyone know if there's anywhere where I could pay for DD 10 to have the Covid vaccine privately? Any European countries offer them privately? So many countries are vaccinating children now Germany, France, USA, Israel etc I am hoping to finally do some traveling this year and it will cost a fortune in private tests to have access to so many indoor places (restaurants, museums, swimming pools) if the child is not vaccinated plus all the pre-departure tests for the unvaccinated to be able to enter the country in the first place. I'd rather have her vaccinated anyway plus making life massively easier when travelling. Thanks for advice and please no anti-vaxx comments. Just looking for advice not debate.

No covid vaccinations are available privately in UK

Depending on the healthcare system at your destination, you might be able to access one there. But it's possible that won't show on the British covid pass (app or letter) so although you can (possibly) get your child protected, there may still be issues with travel admin

A few Eastern European countries are offering them privately. So you'd need to fly there, twice.

But they are mostly offering the Chinese vaccines of Sinopharm and Sinovac so unless you specifically need/want a Chinese vaccine, it wouldn't be much help.

USA will vaccinate anyone eligible for free, incl tourists. I visited family there over Christmas and had dc9 vaccinated. You need to be there 22 days to get both jabs done and you'll get a US vaccination card. Theoretically you should be able to get this recorded on your UK record, but in practice I'm not sure it's possible yet. Of course just the US card is valid as proof in other countries like Americans would use it.

Thank you so much. This is very helpful. Seriously considering altering holiday plans to include the US this year.

@hennybeans that is really useful, thank you.

Which vaccine did you get?

HSHorror · 09/02/2022 13:41

If you join parent united fb group there are people there who have travelled to calais if thats any help?
There is a centre right there on a wednesday.
I would love to but my kids dont yet have passports

HSHorror · 09/02/2022 13:42

But you need both parents present
And
The kids apparently finger prick test and if theyve had covid before they only get that one vax

Goooglebox · 09/02/2022 13:43

Ireland. You'll need an Irish phone number and address (can be a hotel).

Goooglebox · 09/02/2022 13:44

It's free.

hennybeans · 09/02/2022 16:12

@xraydelta It was Pfizer for children in the States.

cherin · 09/02/2022 18:24

I am Italian and could have DS (10) vaccinated for free there, I was told all it takes is registering at the local pharmacy, they create the equivalent of a NIN code and book you in. They don’t seem to care if you are resident or not, but it’s 2 injections 3 weeks apart. Pfizer, children dosage

paname · 09/02/2022 18:27

You can have it done in the Us. DH had a booster for free there last summer. We will have the kids done next summer.

cherin · 09/02/2022 18:28

(The Italian green pass is EU and would therefore be recognised by all other countries. Same as the Irish one)

whittingtonmum · 11/02/2022 20:03

Thanks so much. This is all really helpful. France, Italy and Ireland - what great destinations for a holiday.

I am originally from Germany and have now made enquiries with the local health authorities. I have been told that I could get dd vaccinated in Germany for free despite not being resident and not having health insurance (which is compulsory in Germany). We've already booked a holiday there for the Easter holidays so I'll book her in for a first jab when we're there. Might have to travel again in May half term for the second but I don't mind.

@whittingtonmum we are considering the same. Have flights booked to Germany for Easter and have also been told that 9yo DD (German citizen) could be vaccinated there despite not having the insurance. But it's the requirement (under the current rules) of having to quarrantine DD on arrival on both trips (as she wouldn't be considered fully vaccinated on the second trip as she would only have had one dose) which is really putting me off. I've been hoping that the rules might change (Easter trip was booked a long time ago), but it doesn't look likely....
