Delay testing positive with LFTs - experiences

Hi, My dd (14) started with recurrent throat infections last Nov/Dec and finally tested positive for Glandular Fever (did have PCR test at the start and regular LFTs throughout - all negative). So when she complained of her throat being sore again about ten days ago (and describing just like when her throat infection started in Nov) we thought it a relapse of the Glandular Fever - especially as LFTs remained negative and no known contact with covid positive people.

Her sore throat worsened weekend before last and v fatigued and poor appetite - but all just like her GF symptoms and no new / other symptoms AND still testing neg on LFTs.

Last Monday LFT remained negative, so contacted GP for advice (concerned if now bacterial and she needed anti-bs, which had been needed in Nov) ,and she agreed likely the GF and if no better by Thurs then GP would review her.

Throat /lethargy worse during the week but no more symptoms, so come Thurs get ready for taking her to see GP, which incl another LFT, and this time positive! PCR confirmed this.

Felt bad that I didn't do LFT on the Tues & Wed - but she had no new symptoms and wasn't going school anyway and even GP led me to think it was GF and didn't suggest I do another PCR. (And fortunately she only left room for toilet and evening meal).By miracle hubby, myself and other dd all negative - touch wood; both dd double vacc & hubby & I triple.

Just wondered if others had symptoms for few days / several days before pcr/lft picked up that they covid positive?

Funnily enough it was only on the day when she tested positive, which several days after sore throat and lethargy started, that she had a 24h runny nose; had this come earlier I would def got her a PCR sooner.
She had first neg yesterday so def likely she was covid pos+ several days before the positive test.

Experiences??

Today will be my 6th LFT since dd tested positive - fingers crossed still negative. (can't believe she in house with covid for days and we haven;t (yet) caught it.

Kc x

I suspect her immunity was quite low due to GF which can last 6 months or so. But you’ll probably never know where and when she actually contracted covid, but thankfully it was picked up before she went to GP.
