My child is only one in class who hasn't had it.

My dd is in a class of 28 children. A few weeks back 15 children were off with covid in one week. I have just checked the class watsapp group and every child has caught covid except for my dd.

Her two best friends had it at the same time. We've been testing regularly and she's had no symptoms.

I'm starting to worry a bit as I feel like she hasn't yet had the virus so I don't know how it will affect her. Most of her classmates have only had mild symptoms with it.

Anyone else in this position?

She probably had it asymptomatically. Maybe she way patient zero!

LondonQueen · 08/02/2022 06:55

I think she will probably have had it asymptomatically. Like a PP said she could have been patient zero!

MistyFrequencies · 08/02/2022 06:57

My son's in this position. I just presume he had it asymptomatically and we didn't know.

CovidCorvid · 08/02/2022 06:59

When I had it I was testing negative by day 3, no idea about day 2 as I didn’t test. But if only testing a couple of times a week, even 3x a week I assume it’s possible to miss it.

Remmy123 · 08/02/2022 07:03

Same with all 3 of my kids - I reckon they have had it already and were asymptomatic

Wowwellokthen · 08/02/2022 07:06

I had it for the first time a couple of weeks ago (confirmed by PCR). I never tested positive on lateral flow despite testing daily as a close contact for 7 days before positive PCR. Was ill though that's why I got a PCR.
I reckon lateral flows don't work for everyone.

TheresSomebodyAtTheDoorNeil · 08/02/2022 07:08

No one in my families had it either..... Can't say I'm overly worried about it. And as said above we may have been asymptomatic.

decemberrainydays · 08/02/2022 09:35

My ds was similar- a good 3/4 of his class had it but not him. Then my dd had symptoms and tested positive and we had to pcr test the whole family.

Despite lft negative for ds, he had a positive pcr. He had no symptoms at any time.

If we hadn't pcr tested him due to my dd having it we would have assumed he never had it

Footnote · 08/02/2022 09:46

Pay for a serological antibody test?

irregularegular · 08/02/2022 09:53

She's very likely had it asymptomatically and it was missed by the test - lots of false negatives for asymptomatic cases in particularly.

But even if she hasn't. There is absolutely no reason to think that she would be affected any worse than the other kids if she catches it later. Not at all!!

lunar1 · 08/02/2022 09:58

My children never tested positive on an LFT, so it can be missed. They were symptomatic and had positive PCR tests.

I understand your worry, I haven't had it, I don't want it, but I'm also worried about not having had it and catching an awful variant at some point!

I'll go for as many boosters as they bring out!

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 08/02/2022 11:33

Same here. Haven't got an exact headcount but at least 90% of them have had Covid now. So she was either patient zero or she's going to get it as soon as we plan something nice as a family

ifonly4 · 08/02/2022 12:52

Have you tested her every day since the start of the pandemic? If not, she could well have had it and been asymptomatic. I know someone who tested positive for one day only on LFT - she had to have a PCR for work (positive) and family went onto catch it. If she hadn't done the LFT on that one day, it might have been missed.

Whatwouldscullydo · 08/02/2022 12:55

I worry about this too..in that what if they start thinking is ground zero or something.

I mean I personally think we have all had it. Back in December 2019. Everyone at work and my kids and family all had this horrible virus with a long lasting cough. I particularly remember feeling sun burnt.

I also think we perhaps had it asymptomatically in the second lock.down as my toes went purple.

But can't be sure obviously

We just somehow have managed to missed it om testing

Handsnotwands · 08/02/2022 13:00

We were the same but we’re part of the ons survey and got tested for antibodies. No idea when she had it. But she has at some point

GaladrielHiggins · 08/02/2022 13:02

@Whatwouldscullydo same here, something ripped through the school in the last week of term in Dec 2019 and they went down like skittles, all had hacking coughs. I caught it from DS and had the cough till March!

Now triple jabbed and DS has just tested positive after three weeks of daily testing due to 4 close contacts at school. He has a slightly sore throat but I’m waiting to see if DH and I catch this variant or not.

Whatwouldscullydo · 08/02/2022 13:06

gal

Dd2 has had a cough ever since. Not a serious one but it's there. Occasionally I get a weird feeling where I can't catch my breath but it's over before it's even started.

I wondered for a while if it's just a really mild long civid or something.

Userno263647284 · 08/02/2022 13:59

Maybe she's had it before without realising - even though you can get it again. Dd caught it from us at Christmas then a month later from school.

Maybe she had it aith no symptoms at the start of the class outbreak without realising and by the time the outbreak happened she was negative 🤷‍♀️

Maybe just extremely fortunate.

I wouldn't worry. Most kids are mildly affected.

As above Dd had it twice in a very short space of time. First time, no symptoms and she caught it off me and dp. Second time from school after an outbreak!

Most of DD's class had it recently. The few kids that were left either were very lucky or maybe had it without realising. One kid was sent home during the outbreak with headache and fatigue, parents didn't test as wasn't 'covid symptoms' and sent back in next day. Proably had it. Not saying this was the case for you but my point is, it can be missed sometimes.

We've had it recently but I do believe I could have had in December 2019, I'm never ill but felt terrible. My kids were very poorly early January 2020. Very high temp and fatigue - could be any Other virus but at the time I said it was like nothing I had ever experienced as a parent. They had never been so ill and haven't been ill like it since. After fever subsided they had hacking coughs that were non stop. Many of the kids in their class had the same, dropping like flies and several teachers off with a mystery chesty infection they couldn't shift too! 2 school kids from the school had been to a country that was affected before Christmas too!! We will never know but I stand by that they may have had it then.

We've had it recently and it's been very mild! So who knows.

lunar1 · 08/02/2022 14:07

@Whatwouldscullydo, we think DH possibly had it in dec 2019 too. He had an awful dry cough, was completely wiped out, even had a week off work which is unheard of for him.

Quarantino · 08/02/2022 14:09

My DC is one of a small handful in their class (primary) who hasn't had it. I'm satisfied he hadn't had it asymptomatically as we test often and no-one in our house has had it.

I want to remain covid-free as long as we can but it does feel like everyone else is less bothered about it now they've had it. Although they are starting to get it a second time (different variant).

BurntO · 08/02/2022 14:10

She’s had it OP.

MelCat · 08/02/2022 14:13

I’ve never had it. Worked in a keyworker role throughout pandemic. I presumed I probably had asymptomatically, but I did 2 antibody tests for ONS and never had antibodies. My DH and kids got it. I didn’t (had been doubled jabbed by then). Like all viruses/infections some people don’t get it that could be some sort of natural immunity we don’t know about, luck or as others said she may have had asymptomatically.

Teenylittlefella · 08/02/2022 14:18

We are part of the ONS survey and have been since August 2020. They have recently written to my dh to take part in some genetic testing as he hasn't had it and is the only one in our family (I assume they can tell from antibodies). They seem to be looking into genetic variations giving more immunity or something. Maybe your DD is like my dh?

Teenylittlefella · 08/02/2022 14:18

My dh has quite a rare blood group (AB). I wonder if that might be part of it?
