Is there any point getting a confirmatory PCR after positive LFT?

DH and DC tested positive on LFTs today and are isolating. I know they’ve changed the rules so you don’t have to get a confirmatory PCR - but is there are secret reason why they should? Travel, medical records? Thanks for any info.

The ONS figures don't rely on people reporting positive tests as they are done on a sample basis. Another reason to scrap the daily case numbers which don't really tell you anything.

Well no one's been in touch over my non reported negatives so they can't be that fussed

I am CEV and need a PCR to access emergency life saving drugs if I test positive but there is a system set up for people like me. Not sure the average healthy person needs to get a PCR nowadays.

If you think about it, nobody would even have any way of knowing whether you'd used the tests yet.

No but if you've ordered more than one pack and not reported any it's going to be obvious.

How will it be obvious? A person might have ordered some tests for their family in anticipation of attending events that haven't happened yet, and not do LFTs otherwise.
WhatNoRaisins · 08/02/2022 12:24

I guess you could claim to be stockpiling but it must be obvious that many aren't reported.

Oh it's very obvious on a population level that many aren't reported, absolutely. It's much more difficult to identify which have been used but not reported and which are still sitting in the box, even if a mechanism and the resources to track tests existed.

My point is I've never before felt the need to share information on what viruses I have with any official body and don't see why I'd want to start now.

It's obvious to me why some people wouldn't want to. T and T are a nuisance, for starters.

I did order one last Friday because I had another negative LFT that morning and my TA and ten of my class were all positive. I had a headache and sore throat so ordered the PCR.

I did another LFT when I got home that evening and it was a faint positive. Did another and it was stronger. pCR test arrived on Saturday so I did it and it came back positive on Sunday. It wasn't to confirm but to see if for some strange reason I was always negative on LFTs as I hadn't had the positive yet.

I had a positive PCR and other than one email form to complete no contact from T&T at all.

chubley · 08/02/2022 21:46

Same, I filled in the online T and T forms and no calls - presume they only call those who don't fill them in - there are too many positives these days!

VikingOnTheFridge · 08/02/2022 22:01

For us the hassle was over DC testing positive. DH did the online form, but we were phoned about thr kids.
