School tomorrow or not?

DS had a very faint positive on Friday and so stayed home from school. He has no symptoms and LFT tests were negative yesterday and today. He is in Y8.
For variance reasons his attendance isn’t great. Around the 82% mark so I’m keen that he is in school as much as possible.
Do I send him to school tomorrow or keep him home until Wednesday?

@AreWeThereYetMummy

Book a PCR DO NOT send him until you get a negative PCR

ANYTHING ELSE IS HORRENDOUSLY SELFISH!

  1. Why are you shouting?
  2. Why are you giving wrong and outdated advice?

Both just make you look daft.

Frazzled2207 · 07/02/2022 12:54

I think ask the school for advice and they are within their right to say no until Thursday.
That said common sense could suggest that Friday was the tail end of infection.

But rules are rules and have overtaken common sense at many times during the pandemic.

Wow.

There has never, at any point, been a requirement to wait for a negative pcr before returning to school.
Pcrs can remain positive for MONTHS (while we’re shouting)

Abraxan · 07/02/2022 12:59

You've told school he tested positive so they should not allow him back until day 6, following g two negative tests in day 5/6 24 hours apart.

No way would our school break those rules. They are very strict, as they need to be right now as we have had a massive outbreak.

Re remote learning - only the core lessons need to be given iirr. You can the supplement this with Oak Academy etc

museumum · 07/02/2022 13:00

The shouty PP wasn’t clear (maybe because they were do shouty). IF you believe that first LFT was wrong then do get a PCR if available. If that’s negative he can go back to school.
Otherwise you need to wait until the required two negatives on days 5/6.

MadeForThis · 07/02/2022 13:03

I would do the PCR as there's a chance the LFT was a false positive. The PCR will override the lateral flow result.

ifonly4 · 07/02/2022 15:20

If you haven't already done one, get a PCR booked. I know someone who only tested positive once on a LFT. Work required a PCR, it came up positive. As the test of her family followed with positive tests 5+ days later, she obviously had covid.

Get your shoutyness sorted before March otherwise you're in for some serious anxiety

Oooo hi from 2022 to you in 2020. Draw me a rainbow and don't forget to clap for carers!
Wnkingawalrus · 07/02/2022 15:35

This is where testing when you have no symptoms does you no favours at all. If he hadn't done a LFT on Friday he would never have known he had covid and would have gone to school as normal.

@pollygartertidywife

Unfortunately, because of the political situation and the appalling behaviour of those in charge and a desperate need to distract and 'give the people good news' .. there has been a narrative of 'it's all over' .

Nothing can be further from the truth. ! Get on the Zoe app and inform yourself of the very real surge in cases since masks came off in schools and shops (for people stupid enough to believe politicians)

We are at 516 on ventilators because of Covid . My quiet rural county has Covid at a rate of 5k per 100k. That equates to April last year when the rules were no gathering inside households and maximum of 6 outside and mandatory masks.

Be really careful about believing politicians in areas of public health. Especially those in danger of losing their jobs. Behave as you should do in a pandemic with a child who has tested positive regardless how faint. It's not about him it's who he could infect at school , on the way there or the way home.

The number of people on ventilators WITH Covid (not because of) is a) 478 for the whole of the UK according to the dashboard and b) the lowest its been since the beginning of July. Doctors in hospitals are talking a lot about 'incedental covid' - i.e. because its so prevalent in the community, more people are in hospital for other things and coincidentally testing postive for Covid, so those figures don't even give a true reflection of how many people are genuinely on ventilators because of Covid.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Just for a clear picture, Fridays test was just his usual test that we do twice a week (as I think we are still supposed to do) It was a very faint positive but as has been said, that still makes it a positive.
I tested again on Saturday and Sunday as he was still symptomless and (rightly or wrongly) I’m aware that LFT are not 100% reliable. I do know how of others who have had a positive on a LFT but then negative PCR’s.
Anyway, I spoke to school this morning. They confirmed they’ve had a few similar instances but advised that we stick to the rules so he’s currently bouncing off the walls at home until Thursday (hopefully). PCR done this afternoon so will wait for a full confirmation.

My friend had this recently. Her daughter had a positive lft with no symptoms, rather than registering lft she got her a pcr which come back negative so sent her jn. Things is her daughters friend all had covid at the time but negative pcr and she went back 🤷‍♀️

It is a difficult one!
