My DS is 12 at the beginning of March, at which point he would be eligible for the 12-15 vaccine. We have just had the letter inviting him for the 5-11 year old vaccine which is a much smaller dose. There seems no information on whether we would in fact be better to wait less than a month to get the teenage dose or have the 5-11 dose now. Also if he has 5-11 dose is he fully vaccinated when he then has 1 dose of 12-15 or would he still need two doses.

His consultant says he is not in fact at any greater risk. He has Cerebral Palsy, which it a neurological condition but it doesn't affect his lungs/breathing etc.

In your circumstances I’d wait and follow a proper 12-15 vaccination program, taken you want to vaccinate and your DS also agrees.
My child who’s 9 also received this letter. He probably got flagged up by a computer algorithm due to his appointment in the past, but on practice he’s not at a greater risk of anything acc to what his consultant said in the past, and his condition never required any follow up, adjustments or treatments since then. Severe kinds of this condition are listed in eligibility criteria/green book so that’s why we’ve had the letter. I will not vaccinate him, as I don’t have enough reasons to do so. But I would consider it if he was 12-15.
