This is excellent news, with Sweden planning to join them too

Great news. Hoping to visit these 2 countries in summer, should be easy!

@Dghgcotcitc

Just to be clear there are children in danish schools and they didn’t come to the stork! I don’t think all danish people spend all their life two metres away from people that didn’t live in the household they were born into they must get close to strangers sometime or how do relationships happen and these children born!

..honestly I know nationally stereotyping is fun and all but no danish people didn’t socially distance before the pandemic..like everyone else stranger talked to each other became fRienda, people met people they had never met before and became partners and lovers..I promise it’s normal the world over and how the world survives!!😂🤣

oh my goodness Its made me laugh so much that some stereotypes are popping up about Scandinavian people all living alone rather than people accepting that Denmark is just ahead of the game in terms of having a highly vaccinated population and are getting through the Omicron wave. Omicron is a blessing in disguise.

But demographic of people and their way of life do make a difference on impact of the virus.

Not so populous towns, multi generational living not so popular, healthy outdoor living, are all going to have a positive impact on the spread of the virus.

It’s like when they showed Danish schools being open whilst ours were still closed. They had split the Primary classes in half and spread them over the site (which also included Secondary School site where the secondary pupils were still at home) They already have half the number of pupils in class than we do, and spend more time outdoors. So was always going to be better than cramming in 30 pupils in cramped unventilated classrooms

Sweden also dropping all restrictions.

Here are the stats from the danish track and trace app. Danish data is usually clean and fairly reliable due to everyone having a registration number.

It may reduce the speed of transmission a little but all that does is spread out the wave to be less steep but last longer.

Omicron is so transmissible that it spreads even in ventilated classrooms.

toomuchlaundry · 05/02/2022 10:53

I was showing that we can’t always compare countries easily @Blubells.

This was early on in the pandemic and it was when we were sending pupils back to school and we were being shown how wonderful it was in Danish schools, forgetting that our classrooms etc are nothing like the ones they were showing.

Blubells · 05/02/2022 11:07

Yes I'm sure Denmark has many positive features and consistently ranks higher than the UK in terms of happiness. The two countries are indeed very different.

But to imply that smaller class sizes and ventilation significantly reduce Covid transmission is not correct imo.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 06/02/2022 21:13

I think the main difference is that Danes trust
A. Each other and
B. Authority
Of course that wont apply to everyone, but its a general rule.

I agree.

Denmark is not doing and continuing to push ahead with this because "Whee, we're Scandinavian and our marvellous Danish spaced-out habits are stopping the virus spreading."

They are reporting the biggest ever surges and the virus is spreading like nothing on earth.

They are doing this and continuing to push ahead with it, because the virus is spreading like nothing on earth BUT it doesn't actually matter hugely any more, because a) it's omicron b) they have a highly vaccinated population and most of the few who are not vaccinated are no longer immune naive because they have already have their first (dangerous) infections.

There is no particular reason not to press ahead and do the same in any country where vaccination rates are high, OR where there have been past massive surges meaning that few infections going forward will be first-time infections.

Good post I agree

It also throws the situation in Ottawa in relief as protests grow over mandates

Yeah, the situation in Canada is very similar with regard to high vaccination rates and most people have been exposed as well, but the government is showing no signs of removing any restrictions.

Finland now is also planning on removing their restrictions.

I hope you have plenty of money! It was over £9 for a small beer when I visited Norway, Denmark and Sweden a few years ago.
Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/02/2022 19:46

@Florelei Envy I'll go prepared!
