Currently day 5 and it has made me feel really hungry (and so thirsty!). I have tried not to eat more than usual and am around 3lbs lighter than I was last week (tho some of it is probably natural variation). But I have mega hunger pains reminding me of mealtimes and feel light headed if I've not eaten at the usual time (which is not normal for me)

I blame this thread for the fact I have woken up starving. Yesterday I wasn't even vaguely hungry til 2 then gave up eating my pasta half way through cos I was bored.

Today I want to eat all the food. I can't taste it but I still plan to eat it!

Yes! Last week on day 2 positive I woke up at 4 am, drank tea and ate snacks because I was so hungry! I’ve NEVER in my life done something like that. I don’t do midnight snacks.

I’ve been negative 3 days now (my day 10 is Sunday) but still getting hunger pangs.

MrsBungle · 05/02/2022 10:52

I’m 6 days in and starving. I’m constantly hungry!

Eslteacher06 · 05/02/2022 10:54

Wow.

We've just spent near on two years isolating because of death rates, my mental health is on it's arse and you're pretty much asking if it can be the next fad diet 🤣🤣🤣

When I had it, I was more focused on the prospect of being stuck in the house with two small kids! And I have timber to lose!

BogRollBOGOF · 05/02/2022 13:25

Your resting heart rate often goes up when fighting infection, so using more energy constantly to exist, in the same way that a 20st person uses more energy to exist than a 10st person.

But there's an offset that if you're ill, you'll cut superflouous energy use. If I have a cold, I'd have the energy for a walk rather than a run. Plus if you're isolating with Covid you're stuck in the house cutting a lot of incidental exercise.

So overall, most people would be more sedentary and lose less energy than usual.

Well I lost 12lb in three weeks with covid. Not through burning calories though, I couldn't eat. It went back on after a few weeks. I'm normally one of those people who eats what they like and never gains weight. Weighed the same for 40 years.

Something odd has happened due to covid.
Since having covid 3 months ago I have gained weight despite eating the same. It's very strange as I normally don't vary more than a lb or so either way and have never in my life had to diet.
Not sure what to think atm. I'm not overweight but my clothes are tight and I'm half a stone heavier.

hapagirl · 05/02/2022 13:34

God I hope so. My step count for the last five days is like 5000.

CovidCurious · 05/02/2022 17:27

I use an app to track weight and food intake and I absolutely burned more calories when I had Covid. The effect was quite marked on the app. Plus it was around Christmas time so I was stuffing myself with calorific food and doing no exercise whatsoever as I felt ill. I put on no weight at all.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 05/02/2022 17:33

Well my heart rate was racing so my fitbit thought I was doing quite a bit of cardio

Zolla · 05/02/2022 19:25

Alas no, all I could really taste was chocolate biscuits so I ate a lot of them 😂

My heart rate was really high though for 4/5 days so I probably did burn some energy.. I didn’t put any weight on or off noticeably..

Sloughsabigplace · 06/02/2022 03:56

Anther one here who was just ravenous for about ten days. So we’re dh and teenage ds. I don’t think that much food has ever been consumed in this house.

It was so, so odd!

I gained a fucking stone.

Sloughsabigplace · 06/02/2022 03:57

my metabolism is fucked though from years of yo yo dieting and crash diets, so I do gain very fast. But man, I ate a lot of food.

Webbedlife · 06/02/2022 09:51

When I had Covid I lost 10lb without trying, 7 of those in a week. I had a four day fever plus strong thirst, but if I lost my sense of taste at all if was only slight and brief. I recall a couple of meals tasting odd. I lost more weight subsequently but that was deliberate via MFP as I had plenty to lose and wasn't happy when the 10lb started to rebound.

OliveTree75 · 06/02/2022 11:26

I was also insanely hungry with covid. It was weird! I ordered so much food
