Scientific links please about covid ending

Does anyone have any scientific links please about covid ending or reducing? After catching it for the first time in 2 years I am worried as I don't want to catch it again. The people I know who have caught covid was because of packed poorly ventilated public transport but the government are making sure people are not aware of this.

You can catch it again, jabbed or not jabbed. HTH

Blubells · 04/02/2022 12:37

There is evidence that your body will have some immunity against omicron (and delta) after having recovered from an omicron infection. For how long we don't yet know of course.

TheWhalrus · 04/02/2022 12:43

I agree with the above. I'm not exactly sure what scientific evidence you're looking for here, but yes, if you had COVID already, this will reduce the chances of having it again. Nonetheless, and especially if more new variants emerge, re-infection is also quite possible. Many people posting on here have had COVID more than once.

in the meantime, the best way to safely minimize your risks of re-infection is to be fully vaccinated if you aren't already and to encourage all your regular contacts to also be vaccinated.

WeAreTheHeroes · 04/02/2022 12:44

To not be aware that you can catch Covid more than once or that travelling on public transport can put you at risk of catching it (as can pretty much any social situation indoors) you would have to have lived under a rock for the past two years. Get vaccinated and boosted and continue to wear a mask to protect others.

If the WHO says the pandemic is entering "plausible endgame" in Europe that's good enough for me.

TheWhalrus · 04/02/2022 12:46

BTW, according to this study, re-infection rate was 0.9% in the UK in the second wave, whereas the new infection rate (in people who hadn't already had it was 4.9%). How this applies to delta/omicron I don't know. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34052242/

Unfortunately I think this link is subscription only, although its all I could find on this with a brief PubMed search.

WeAreTheHeroes · 04/02/2022 14:03

The other thing is that no one really knows which variant they are getting as a lft or PCR doesn't tell you. Symptoms differ from person to person and depend on your vaccine status and other variables.

You don't sound like you don't know what you're looking for. Do some research. I don’t mean experimentation or original research. I mean read around the subject and look up things you don’t understand and get a good grounding so that you can keep abreast of what is going on around you. Yes, the government lies because they have vested interests and are self-oriented despite what they say.

Therefore you cannot remain at the mercy of information given to you via government filter as you have no idea whether or not it will be true. You can likely make a safe bet the things they tell us are untrue but then you have no idea what the truth is.

This is why you need to make it your business to know what's going on.

Go to a search engine of your choice and type in keywords such as ‘COVID ending’ ‘COVID infection rate’ etc. Etc.

Look up what the tests are and assess what “COVID positive” actually constitutes. Look up what sars-cov-2 is and look up your own personal risk etc. Etc.

Make things that affect your life your business.

Have you been living under a rock for the last two years. They’ve never shit up about social distancing, masks and ventilation. Not sure where you get the idea they don’t want people to know about it from.

Agreed.

Although currently all I know barring one are either caught it from school or caught it form dc who is at school and that is one that the government was trying to pretend didn't happen for ages.

Blubells · 04/02/2022 14:25

but the government are making sure people are not aware of this.

What for you mean?

I don't think anyone doesn't understand how highly infectious viruses spread Confused!?

Eh?

User0458832 · 04/02/2022 15:15

I don't particularly want to catch flu again but I dare say I will...

countrylady2 · 04/02/2022 15:17

I don't think my post made sense. I just think now it's being swept under the carpet and not being highlighted how contagious it is. Following good practice will still help.

OP posts:
BluebellsGreenbells · 04/02/2022 15:20

You’d have to ask what percentage of travelers hadn’t taken a LFT prior to traveling.

GirlInACountrySong · 04/02/2022 15:28

Next month there's no obligation to isolate

So it will be everywhere, more so than now. Everyone knows how contagious it is, but for most people it's mild

OliveTree75 · 04/02/2022 17:48

This thread must be a wind up. They've never shut up about how contagious it is

nordica · 04/02/2022 18:43

Actually the research into covid on London public transport has so far not found it present in the air or on surfaces. Here's a scientific link for you... www.imperial.ac.uk/news/227473/covid-19-sampling-study-finds-trace-virus/

Most people I know who've had covid got it at work, from a family member or from socialising with friends or family in indoor spaces like house parties or restaurants. Of course it's not always possible to know exactly where you got it, but public transport is better ventilated than most indoor spaces just because the doors tend to open on a regular basis at bus stops/train stations etc.

WeAreTheHeroes · 04/02/2022 18:48

The only difference now is that the latest known new variants appear to cause the majority of vaccinated people milder illness. There are still people being hospitalised with it - those who are unvaccinated and those unlucky vaccinated people for whom the vaccines hasn't provided the protection it has for others.

How can anyone with any commonsense think how contagious it is has not been highlighted?!

countrylady2 · 04/02/2022 19:59

@BluebellsGreenbells Yes, I bet some travellers don't test which is the problem.

I'm glad everyone has been so helpful on this forum. Elsewhere online I know people haven't caught it as they say it's 'just a cold' or some say it's a hoax which is ridiculous.
