Covid, birthing partner and panic

Hi all,

Im 36+4 I tested positive for covid on Monday and currently on day 3 of isolation. Feel ok- bit if a cold but nothing I’d usually stay off of work for! Im out of isolation just before I turn 38 weeks.

I live with my partner, who’s working from home, and today he did two LFTs, both with a very faint line (but this was after an hour).

Im really, really worried about what’s going to happen when baby comes. Obviously if he tests positive at the hospital, he cannot be there when she’s born (I totally understand why) and that’s really worrying me.

Part of me wants him to get it now so he’s out of isolation just after I turn 38 weeks. But then is he still likely to test positive at the hospital? I don’t really have anyone else to be there with me, so if he can’t be there I’d be giving birth alone.

It’s really playing on my mind and just wanted to know if anyone else has been in a similar situation 😩

If he tests positive today then he would be out of isolation on the 12th (possibly before).
Get him to do another test but read it between 20-30 minutes. Or get him to go for a PCR and just say he has symptoms. Then you'll know either way.

Will they definitely test him at the hospital? I had a navy during the winter lockdown in Scotland and we weren't tested

Navy = baby

@shouldistop we’re not sure if it’s positive yet- we looked after 30 minutes so could be void but it’s strange that 2 tests did the same thing. He’s going to test again tomorrow. It’s so stressful!
According to my midwife they’ll test us both when we get there so I’m hoping he’s over it by then!

He will need a negative lateral flow which don’t show evidence of past infection like PCRs do.
I understand your stress, it’s completely out of your hands and I hope it all works out.
You never know, you could have another 6 weeks before you have the baby!

I had a baby in September, they only tested me not my husband. This was in Leicester

Firsttimemum20222 · 02/02/2022 22:40

@FelicityBob yes that’s what I thought. Hoping he gets it now to be honest but you’re right, it’s totally out of my hands!

@Bigdreamer9 I’ve heard a few people say that but sounds like they’re testing both now 🤷🏼‍♀️

Bit of an update…
He tested positive today- a whole week after me. He’ll be out of his isolation next Thursday when I’ll be 38 + 5. Obviously current guidance is the whole test from day 5 or isolate for 10 days and then you’re allowed out.

I know some people are testing positive after day 10…anyone have any idea what the hospital might say if we went in and he was still positive on their LFT, even if it’s past his 10 days? If that makes any sense. Because according to the government, he’d be allowed out and is no longer contagious. But would the hospital see it like that 🤷🏼‍♀️ It’s all so confusing because different places seem to have different regulations and restrictions 🤦🏼‍♀️ He’d obviously have all his covid stuff on email to say when his isolation ends etc.

Any advice or opinions are more than welcome!
