Staff sickness means school are keeping one yeargroup a day at home (except y11) is this happening in other schools?

OP posts:
Remmy123 · 01/02/2022 22:30

Not where we are

Thirtytimesround · 01/02/2022 23:05

Not yet, we were warnd in Dec that it might but then cases levelled off a bit. Still major major staff and pupil absence problems tho.

truthfullylying · 01/02/2022 23:09

It is dreadful what is happening in schools, the government is just useless on this issue!

SexTrainGlue · 01/02/2022 23:09

Escaped it, but there was a contingency plan to keep years 11 and 13 in come what may, with other year groups off-site

JanglyBeads · 01/02/2022 23:11

It's happening in a few schools I think, yes. And will go on happening unless the government actually allow schools to protect students and staff against covid.....

DrWankincense · 01/02/2022 23:12

Yip!
DD is 'learning at home' tomorrow.

Workinghardeveryday · 01/02/2022 23:18

Our whole large secondary was closed last week due to staff having covid

RhinestoneCowgirl · 01/02/2022 23:20

We had y8 closed for 3 days last week, y9 is closed for 3 days this week. We were warned at the beginning term that this might happen, they are aiming to prioritize exam years to stay in school.

BigUpAllOfUshereOnMN · 01/02/2022 23:21

Currently have DC at home with Covid. I haven't come across the situation being discussed on the news. Maybe they want it to sweep through schools

Happyharry2003 · 02/02/2022 03:04

Yep two year groups off for rest of week - again

Or drops isolation of positive cases
Tillyloveslettuce · 02/02/2022 03:36

Vickyc90 why would dropping isolation help? If teachers are sick they can’t teach or are you wanting ill people to come in?

BooksAndHooks · 02/02/2022 06:58

No, before Christmas there were a few year groups that had to be supervised in hall or gym by a cover or TA but none were sent home. There were some subjects teacher was teaching the class via zoom from home with TA supervising the class as well.

Savoretti · 02/02/2022 07:05

7 8 and 9 home schooling for a week

MummyInTheNecropolis · 02/02/2022 07:09

Our school has years 7, 8 and 9 in in the morning and 10, 11, 12 and 13 in the afternoon. The other half of the day they’re learning online at home.

Barbie222 · 02/02/2022 07:15

Yes, rolling here. Some of the teachers are very poorly.

Wargghhhh · 02/02/2022 07:15

Not here no

Somebodylikeyew · 02/02/2022 07:20

Not here but intrigued by this. Rolling closures sound a much “fairer” way to spread the impact on education but wondering how it actually works in terms of stopping transmission and work being set for the right years etc.

Didiusfalco · 02/02/2022 07:23

Yes, happening where I work. Just not enough staff to keep everyone in. I don’t think dropping isolation would help as staff are actually Ill.

RancidOldHag · 02/02/2022 07:25

It's not to prevent transmission.

It's because so many staff have it (or are unvaccinated and required to isolate) that they cannot safely open the school to all pupils and conduct lessons.

Plasmodesmata · 02/02/2022 07:25

My son is now home learning until next week, partly cases in his year partly staffing issues.

DanglingMod · 02/02/2022 07:26

It's not really to do with stopping transmission, it's about not enough adults in the building to keep everyone safely supervised.

Yes, we had to send year 8, 9 and 10 home for a week each before Christmas and it's getting close to that again.

Stopping isolation won't help (much) as most of the teachers are too sick to be in; they're not just sitting at home bored (maybe two throughout the whole pandemic would have been well enough to come in).

BoogieFeet · 02/02/2022 07:32

Yes, this is starting this week in our secondary school. One day a week learning from home as they don’t have enough staff to cover absences.

MarshaBradyo · 02/02/2022 07:34

No closures here

HavfrueDenizKisi · 02/02/2022 07:35

Goodness no! School in London. We must be very lucky so far. There was a rush of Covid in September/October that burnt through the school. But otherwise this term seems ok🤞🏻
