Positive stories pls - vulnerable with covid

Hi 👋

Can I please get your positive stories of yourselves or family members that are vulnerable and caught covid...

Internal panic setting in and catastrophizing over a family member who recently tested positive and is poorly in bed living alone...

Bump.... hope the lack of answers doesn't mean no one has 'good news' experiences

I'm a bit nervous to reply as I'm not someone who's alarmed by covid but in the absence of any replies I'll give my tuppence worth... Do you feel like this every time said family member gets a cold or mild fluey bug? I would approach this in exactly the same way as that. Obviously if their particular vulnerabilities means they are seriously at risk from a common cold then there is cause for alarm but otherwise I imagine they'll have a rough few days and then be back to normal.

My DD was shielding last year due to having had chronic lung disease as a neonate. She caught Covid from school and spiked a fever 24 hours after testing positive, which affected her breathing. Called 111 who sent paramedics, who took us into hospital so I was very worried. Once her temp came down, her breathing stabilised and we were sent home after a couple of hours. Next morning, she was absolutely fine and remained so for the next 10 days in isolation. I caught it off her and felt worse despite being triple jabbed!

ElinorOliphant · 01/02/2022 23:20

My DP is CEV and has covid… he’s fine (I was affected much more!)

It’s all so unpredictable, but things are the best they’ve been medicine wise than at any other time.

PlateSpinnerJuggler · 01/02/2022 23:44

Thanks guys - appreciate the feedback....

Appreciate the kids seem to fair pretty well - but this is an adult in their 40s, he has multiple medical items that can cause vulnerabilities to covid - yes I do get worried about him a lot... but he genuinely has lots for me to worry about...

so whilst I know it's partly me stressing, he is poorly (o2 92 on several checks today - gp today said go to a&e if goes below 90) but takes a lot of pushing from me for him to check it etc
I know 111 guidance would actually be to go to Hosptial based on todays readings but because gp told him this he won't budge and call.

92 I would go to hospital. Can you call 111 on his behalf ?

SirVixofVixHall · 01/02/2022 23:48

If his sats fall any lower he won’t be rational enough to get himself to hospital, he lives alone and is vulnerable, I would be thinking about calling an ambulance.

JugglingJanuary · 01/02/2022 23:56

If you ring 119 I'm pretty sure they will put him on their virtual covid ward. They will keep assessing him & send an ambulance when they feel it's necessary.

Let's hope his age helps him through this.

Nat6999 · 02/02/2022 04:26

Ds had Covid at the beginning of the pandemic, I'm ECV & looked after him & didn't catch it.

Nat6999 · 02/02/2022 04:29

Sorry didn't read the question properly, my friend is ECV, has renal failure & does dialysis at home, she caught covid from one of her carers & was OK, she didn't,'t have to be admitted to hospital.

Lagarthatheviking · 02/02/2022 06:33

Just a thought- has he been offered antivirals? My CEV (shielding)FIL was contacted by a specialist doctor after he tested positive...

Anyway, it turned out that he didn’t need them as his symptoms were only dizziness and tiredness. Phew!

Sparklingbrook · 02/02/2022 06:40

Definitely see if eligible for the antivirals.

My CEV relative (in highest risk group) caught Covid. They had had 4 jabs. They got antivirals in the 5 day window and all was fine.

PlateSpinnerJuggler · 02/02/2022 06:59

@Lagarthatheviking @Sparklingbrook
That's exactly what I told him to ask the gp yesterday. He said he asked if there were more pills he could have - they said they won't give more pills (caught covid off the back of double-triple chest infections) without an X-ray- and they'd leave a form for him to go for an X-ray at a walk in - but he's not to let anyone else take him whist he's positive and to wait 5 days if he's not well enough to take himself. Honestly so annoyed with these comments... but I wasn't on the call and he doesn't question. Not even sure the walk ins would allow a covid patient!
Now I do what I do with him often and I wait and wait to hear an "I'm awake comment" to know he's ok....
Maybe I should just go round there?

92% sates may be fine for him though, does he have COPD or anything?
Two CEV I know had covid had less symptoms than lots of others I know - in fact they sailed through. 🤞🏼 he makes a quick recovery. X

Luckymummytoone · 02/02/2022 07:05

Sats*

Sparklingbrook · 02/02/2022 07:08

The anti virals/antibodies were administered via a drip at hospital but there’s a time frame and after that they won’t give them. I think it has to be within 5 days.

Fishlegs · 02/02/2022 07:14

My CEV brother caught Covid in the summer, he was fine after a few days. In your position I’d be going round daily to check on him, and I’d call the GP back today, whilst I was there and question the advice. I’d also drive him to his x-ray (with both of us wearing masks), and keep testing daily with lft.

Fishlegs · 02/02/2022 07:19

Actually, if I went round there and his sats were 90%, I’d call an ambulance or just take him into A&E myself. The gov website says that people who are eligible for anti-virals will be contacted once their positive PCR is known, but I guess not everyone is getting a PCR these days.

nellytheelephant1980 · 02/02/2022 07:19

Hi, I’m CEV and had covid a couple of weeks back. I’m not going to lie, I felt rough, but here I am, all better and now full of antibodies Smile 2 years of worrying for what was really like the flu. Take care

Mickarooni · 02/02/2022 07:43

Since omicron started spreading, I’ve heard of quite a few CEV people who’ve had Covid and not been too unwell at all.

Does he have lung disease? Target oxygen sats are different for people.

Not copd but vulnerable lungs and severe sleep apnea (amongst other stuff)

They get sent a PCR test in the post to keep on hand and it's all labelled up so as soon as the positive comes up they get a call to get them in for the anti virals.

I agree about the oxygen. My relatibe had a finger clip monitor and it consistently read low though. 5 lower than the ambulance crew's at one point. Sad

He hasn't even logged the LFT! I think all the questions overwhelmed - has mental health issues too

Well I'm assuming this is after vaccines - 2 years ago may have been not the same - keep staying safe
