School while not positive.

Hi. I'm sure this has been done before.

We all test ourselves on a Monday morning. My 5 year old was positive. Through the day it became clear her throat is hurting, temperature & she went downhill.

My son is 8 & school said he needs to be in. They are aware of myself being a single parent who doesn't drive. They said they will authorize the absence if I can't get him in, which is nice of them.

If I had any way to get him there I'd keep him home today & possibly tomorrow as well, testing each day, then send him on Thursday.

Will this be looked at as wrong though? By other parents? The parents who I speak to when I collect my youngest are absolutely against siblings attending school if another sibling is positive... It's all they talk about... 'So & so bought their kid in while the other one has covid, I told my kid to stay away from them', 'We took 2 extra tests last night & 2 before school, because of that sibling' etc.
Also scanning any photos put online to see if their child is sat next to a sibling & 'warning' other parents of 'the situation'.

I don't agree with any of that. Say nothing other than 'Its difficult because siblings are supposed to be in. They technically aren't doing anything wrong'.

Anyway, I'm waffling a bit but basically, if I can find a way to send my son to school on Thursday & Friday, would that be wrong? (I would only do it if each test before then is absolutely negative)
Or should I just write this week off for both of them because he could be spreading it?

My dh was teaching when ds was positive. My next door neighbours dd is currently positive and her mum is teaching. Ds's best friend went to college when his mum and brother were positive.

If school say your child should be in you should send them if at all possible.

LovelyLovelyWarmCoffee Don't worry, I'm going to be judged strongly by certain people I imagine.

Comefromaway Thursday & Friday he is all set to go (if he stays negative)
It's difficult for people who don't have a support network but this will be the kick up the bum I need to try & build one!

Hi OP me again!! You do not deserve to be judged you are doing nothing wrong. I hope he gets to school tomorrow.

TestZen · 01/02/2022 16:30

Thanks RG2468 I've not tried to sort it for tomorrow, just for Thursday & Friday, & with some help from the school I've managed it.

He's done his home learning today & understands that tomorrow is his last day at home unless he gets a 'T' on the test in the morning!

This is a bit of a bitchy post reallyGrin

The update on the thread was after I stopped posting my oldest felt unwell & tested positive anyway so luckily (you know what I mean by luckily) we were all ill & isolating at the same time, 10 days at home then we all had our double negatives etc.

Anyway, I've spoken as little as possible to 'that group' of mums since then however I chatted briefly to one on Monday & she promptly informed me that she had tested positive over half term, her husband & kids went out like usual & she isolated for 3 whole days before leaving her phone at home & going to the park, the corner shop & the little supermarket on day 4 because she needed to get out.

I KNOW WE CAN ALL DO WHAT WE LIKE NOW WITH ISOLATION SO NOBODY JUMP ON ME!

Just, purely in the context on this thread & what I've said about 'these mums'.... If seems it absolutely was a case of one rule for everybody else, & a different rule for them.

There. Rant overGrin
