I’d love to hear from anyone who has been through this! I’m double vaccinated but not boosted.

My DH had Covid last week, he isolated in our spare room to try and spare me and our 2 year old. I’m 22 weeks pregnant. He was very tired and had chills for a couple of days but after that felt pretty much back to normal. We thought we were safe around day 8 after he had two negative lateral flows and he rejoined the house for the weekend.

I woke up feeling very nauseous. My morning sickness has been gone for weeks so I was confident it wasn’t that. I took a test which showed a VERY faint positive (squint and shine a light to see it type thing). I’ve been in bed all day with chills and having violent vomiting episodes every 2-3 hours. I’ve stopped sipping water as it just comes back up…. I’m amazed there’s anything left to come up anyway.

Has anyone else been through this? I feel utterly awful and I’m scared for my baby. I can’t even sleep as I’m too nauseous and I just don’t know what I can do other than lay here feeling awful.

It was a vomiting bug not Covid, but I had this when pregnant. Dehydration is much more serious when pregnant. If you can't keep water down, I'd call 111. The first time I was sent to the out of hours GP who gave me anti nausea medication, which helped with the worst of it. If you are up to it, I'd check your pulse to tell 111, mine was very raised due to the dehydration and it was one of the things they were worried about.

I had hyperemesis in both pregnancies .. I violently vomited for all 9 months. I appreciate I wasn’t technically poorly with a virus (a separate concern) but I could barely eat or drink anything for months on end.

Both DDs were happy & healthy 8lb babies. I however was destroyed 🙈

Eating is less important but you really need to keep an eye on your hydration levels. I was in & out of hospital every 7-10 days for fluids. It is dangerous to become dehydrated. Call your maternity assessment unit at anytime if convened.

Also, if you still feel awful overnight, I’d contact your GP tomorrow & get yourself some anti sickness. I took 3 lots of anti-sickness the entire way through my pregnancies, there are plenty safe to take. Only one carries a minor risk.

Thank you both for responding! I’ve just taken another lateral flow expecting to see a darker line… and nothing. It’s negative.

I did have a sickness bug before Christmas which was similar to this but not as violent/ not as frequent.

Sipping water wasn’t working out but I had a desperate craving for grapefruit - DH has brought me some and sucking on the segments is so good. I hope it’s worth it and I don’t hugely regret it :/

I hear the concerns on dehydration, but what can I do, keep drinking glasses of water that come back up a short while later?

@Bobholll hats off to you. Seriously. I don’t know how you got through that. I had horrible morning sickness in the first trimester/ til quite recently and it was hell. It’s very reassuring to hear that your babies were fine.

Teeny tiny sips of fluid are the way forward. Literally a teaspoon full every 10 minutes. Or try sucking ice cubes or ice lollies. Water can be harder to tolerate than other fluids. Maybe teeny sips of squash, apple juice or tea.

Also, were you sick before taking your LFT this morning? If you'd been sick in the hour or so before the acid could still have been in your nose/throat and affected the result.

With the craving for grapefruit it could just be pregnancy sickness...

Drink sips of rehydration powder mixed with water. You can get this in grocery stores or boots, chemists etc. It helps hydrate you quick and even if you vomit it back up, if you keep it down a few minutes that is at least something. It also helps you feel better as it has the right amount of sugar and salts. If you get too deydrated you can end up feeling sick bc of that.

Thank you for the further advice - tiny sips is working this morning! DH has also made me a rehydration drink.

I wasn’t sick before my faint positive covid test yesterday (just afterwards). I’ve tested negative again this morning. I now don’t think I have covid and am very confused about that faint line!

Same here exactly. I weighed less at 9 months than before pregnancy. As this poster says the baby takes what they need but hydration is critical. Don't stop drinking because you vomit. Speak to a midwife.
