Close contact, feel so ill, negative PCR?

I was with someone all day last Sunday who tested positive on the Monday. We sat next to each other at a competition so was in close contact with them. On Saturday morning, so 6 days later, I started to feel ill with all the symptoms of omicron. Did LFT's and all negative, decided to get a PCR yesterday and it's come back negative today. I feel truly grim and feel likely it's Covid but what do I do due to negative PCR. Could it be wrong, and I've just got a bad cold or would you test again. I do a lot of care for my mum who has a terminal lung condition and feel very worried about going near her 😳

I had similar when my DD had Covid last year. Felt so ill but negative LFTs and 2 negative PCRs - I did the second PCR as I thought I’d tested too early to pick it up!

My other DC currently have Covid and I feel the same again. Unwell myself but all tests negative.

Are you vaccinated? I wonder if for me I feel unwell because I’ve been exposed to the virus but the vaccine response is kicking in?

If I was you I would have another PCR and continue testing on LFTs but swabbing your throat even if they are nose only ones.

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

balzamico · 31/01/2022 17:04

I can only say that even if it is not covid you don't want to pass it to your mum so I'd stay away anyway. Hope you feel better soon

crazyexornot · 31/01/2022 17:04

I am exactly the same at the moment! I have been in contact with 8 positive people in the past 6 days (I'm a teacher)

I feel absolutely awful but all lfts and pcr are negative

Snowdayoverdue · 31/01/2022 17:06

When are you testing? Make sure it's first thing in the morning before you eat or drink anything.

Rupertpenrysmistress · 31/01/2022 17:11

My DH is exactly like this, high temp, aches & no taste, negative lateral flows and a PCR however, my dd has just tested positive on lateral flow with virtually no symptoms.

Siameasy · 31/01/2022 22:47

Anecdotal only but all vaccinated adults around here have only had “a cold” with recent covids. This sounds like something else. The only two people I know who felt awful (temperature/vomiting/delirium) are unvaccinated

DumpedByText · 31/01/2022 22:53

I'm fully vaccinated and boosted. It is cold like symptoms, but just awful with it.

I literally have no energy, a banging headache, leg aches and an awful cough. I never get colds, but this has knocked me for six.

I'm exactly the same, close contact last week with 2 different people, both then test positive. I'm full of an awful cold, cough, headache, achy, exhausted, have had numerous negative lfts and a negative pcr yesterday.

I'm fully vaccinated and boosted too. So strange!

My sister is triple vaccinated with Pfizer and those were her symptoms. She did test positive though. She was quite poorly for a week and it's taken another week for her to get up and about the house.
ImInACage · 31/01/2022 23:23

I was exactly the same a few weeks ago. Both kids caught it, a few days later I was starting to feel really poorly and did so for nearly two weeks. Many, many negative lateral flows and several negative PCRs. I still don't understand, unless I had caught something else at the same time, although I hadn't left the house and had isolated with them since they tested positive.

doorornottodoor · 31/01/2022 23:25

There’s still other viruses around. Even if it isn’t Covid you still wouldn’t see your mum feeling like that anyway? In case you passed the cold onto her? I would stay away from your mum until you feel better. keep doing lateral flows. I’m all likelihood it’s just a different virus though Flowers

TheRainbow · 01/02/2022 01:15

Same symptoms as you op, had high temperature last Monday. Lateral flows negative. I felt like it was a bad cold/mild flu. Ill enough to not be able to go to work (I'm cev). 4 days later on Friday (I still felt quite poorly, coughing/runny nose), I did another lateral flow which was positive. Did another PCR to confirm. This time it was positive. I think on Monday I can't have been shedding enough virus to show on Lft and PCR . This is the second (possibly 3rd) bout of covid for me. The previous time, there was also a delay of several days between me having a temperature and testing positive on lfts. It might be worth testing again as a precaution before you visit family/friends. Hope you're feeling much better soon.

Psychosomatic in my opinion.

Bolloccks is it. Also had this in our household and know others who have too.

Abraxan · 01/02/2022 16:51

19y Dd had all the symptoms of the current covid strain for over a week. Was in bed with it all, including a massive head ache for 3-4 days and took a while to feel better.

She did several LFTs and two PCRs. All negative.

She is triple jabbed and has previously tested negative for virus acquired antibodies.

Tiramysu · 01/02/2022 17:10

Same. I'm wondering if having the awful cold has stopped me getting covid

DumpedByText · 02/02/2022 08:11

I'm still feeling really poorly and I've woke up with no taste or smell. LFT's still negative 🤷‍♀️

This happened to me and SO MANY people I know and it’s seems to be very common that people genuinely think they have covid for good reasons - all the symptoms and having been exposed to positive people but the tests show negative.

I am triple vaccinated on day 10 and have felt so, so shit. Certainly not 'a cold' for me. Symptoms included, nausea, temperature, chest stuff, sore throat, numbing of sense of small and haste, nose on fire.
HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 02/02/2022 08:23

I had something before Christmas that I swore must have been covid, awful non stopping cough, sore throat, completely lost my voice for a week, headache, fever and aches but kept testing negative.

I have covid at the moment and it's no where near as bad as whatever I had before Christmas. Ive had chills and fever that lasted about 3 hrs and a bit of a runny nose and the occasional cough other than that I'm just tired.

Either way I'd avoid your mum if you can until you are better, there are plenty of other viruses doing the rounds.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 02/02/2022 08:26

I tested negative on a PCR on Monday after being pinged but was positive in the Sunday so iylt can take a while to show up.

If you have the nose swab LFTs you could swab the back of your throat with them like the old ones, apparently it picks up the virus a day or so earlier than just the nose swab.

Nidan2Sandan · 02/02/2022 09:03

We've all been hiding from illnesses for so long, wearing masks etc that is it really any surprise that even a bog standard cold is flooring peoppe now?

Our immunity to these must be through the floor.

Mindymomo · 02/02/2022 09:39

I would get another PCR test done.

I don't really understand this - not being goady - this is a genuine question. Ok I've been WFH and wearing masks but I still have all the antibodies I ever had. For example, if I met a child with chicken pox, I would not expect to get ill with chicken pox because I had it myself as a child.

Does your immune system have to keep fending things off to work?
