Ds had covid 3/4 weeks ago.
He’s now symptom free but is very run down and keeps feeling sick.
Does this sound normal?
He has multivitamins daily anyway, but is there anything v else I can do to give him a boost?

Not my own, but I'm a teacher of that age group. From my experience, that is not outside the bounds of 'normal'. Some have bounced back really quickly but I have a few who have taken 4-6 weeks to get their energy levels back to normal.

SleepingDoglets · 31/01/2022 10:33

Thank you, that’s very reassuring!

Has anyone kept their DC off school a bit longer? DS (9) is on day 12 and went back to school yesterday. He seems so, so tired and a bit emotional. Still a bit breathless too. He's gone in again today because he's technically not ill but I'm wondering about keeping him off for the rest of the week. He could probably manage going in but I'm worried that 'pushing through' might make him more vulnerable to long Covid.

Could you ask the school about picking him up at lunchtime if your at home?

MoMuntervary · 02/02/2022 15:06

That's a good idea, thanks. Not sure how he'll feel about that - he doesn't like to stand out. But I'll definitely ask him.

One of mine had it very mildly but then got two colds and overall took six weeks to bounce back fully. She was pale, frequents headaches and just not right

My others have bounced back quicker

MoMuntervary · 02/02/2022 17:43

Yes - he's very pale too @Thievesoil Does Covid cause anemia? Glad to hear she's bounced back in the end. Did you do anything differently to help her recover or was it a case of just waiting it out?

My 9 year old had the Delta variant in July. He lost so much weight that he looked like a lollipop - head stick figure. He only started get back to normal in November. Until then he barely ate a meal and could only snack or graze. Fortunately, Mumsnet had a trial of a food supplement for kids so I ordered some of that fir him and it was reassuring to know he was getting the right nutrition. But it took until November for him to eat a proper meal and for his energy levels to increase. He is a lot better now but it has been a long haul! Xxx

MoMuntervary · 02/02/2022 20:53

Good to hear he's back to normal now @Whenigrowupiwanttobea The spectrum of "mild infection for children" is very wide, isn't it?

BigUpAllOfUshereOnMN · 02/02/2022 21:27

DS on day 12, run down, itchy skin, rash on face just cleared up. Face went red this afternoon and temp was 37.8 then went down. Will be staying home rest of the week

Ds2 got sick on the 21st of December. He was up and about after a couple of days, tested positive til day 10. His appetite came back yesterday. So yes, it can take time.

HoldenCaulfieldismyhomeboy · 02/02/2022 22:14

I overheard a mum at school (she's a nurse) saying about how there's a link between children catching covid and ending up anemic so something to bare in mind.

Thievesoil · 02/02/2022 23:25

mo my other kids bounced back. My older child had a 2 hour headache

I have her Floradix. She gets cod liver oil and vitamin d anyway!

She looks great again. I was a bit worried a few days

I have one on a build up timetable, was desperate to be back but just doesn't have the energy to manage a full day yet.
Toanewstart22 · 03/02/2022 08:28

My DD2 had covid last year and has had more headaches since then, and spells of dizziness. The GP suggested low iron, but didn't think a blood test was overly essential- basically just keep an eye and try some multivitamins with iron. I found some suitable for children in Holland and Barrett and they've definitely helped.
ChildHeadache · 03/02/2022 08:51

Its so strange isn't it. My 10 year old had an awful headache one evening and morning (hence this user name - I was dithering whether to ring 111 it was so unusual until we realised it was covid).... and then was bouncing around like normal so less than 24 hours.

12 year old isn't ill but is tired and floppy. Bored of being in though and wants to do Something.

Its likely I had it march 2020 ( not tested then but asthma nurse and dr stayed in contact and thought it was - heavy elephants on chest/bad asthma type. Ut was horrendous. )

I haven't cought it from them despite close contact .... yet...
