I tested positive for covid. I have not caught it before. I had a temperature of 38.4 and it has gone down to 36.9 now. I had a headache and it's gone. I keep getting shivery, back pain and feel sick. I am having panic attacks since I found out. I either caught it at work or from housemates as people at work had covid and housemate has just tested positive too. Can anyone please give me some tips? I am so anxious right now and want to hear success stories. I don't feel well enough to work from home so just report under Covid absence at work? Report to track and trace and how long do I stay in for? Thank you.

relax OP! stay calm. Drink lots of water. Take vitamins: D, C and Zinc. Rest well. Report your positive test. Count the days from positive test or symptoms: day zero is first day of symptoms. On day 5 you can test. If you're negative day 5 and 6 you can leave on day 6. If not keep testing and you can leave after 2 consecutive negative tests. After day 10 you can leave isolation no matter what the tests say. Order lots of food via online shopping. Look after yourself. It will get easier after about a week! I felt worst on day 7.

@ollobololo Thank you for your advice. This has helped. I will have to figure out where to log my result.

Well the vast majority of people who catch it have ‘success stories’.
I had it over Christmas. Felt a bit fluey for a couple of days, then I was fine. The rest of my family had it too, 3 asymptomatically and 1 with a runny nose and cough.

dementedpixie · 30/01/2022 22:56

My dh had a scratchy throat, runny nose and mild headache. He worked from home and we got shopping delivered. Keep calm and look after yourself

I had it before vaccines.

Best way to explain the severity is it was a bit worse than a standard cold but not as bad as when I've had tonsillitis.

Rest up and you'll feel better in a few days. Assuming you've had 3x vaccines?

Spudina · 30/01/2022 23:02

Rest, fluid and vitamins. And TV box sets. Sack off work. Would your housemates make you some soup?? Get well soon OP. Ps I wouldn’t take pyrexia reducing medicines necessarily if my temp was 38 as the fever is your body’s way of fighting the virus.

DiddyHeck · 30/01/2022 23:03

Stop taking your temperature for a start because what's the point? It only seems to be worrying you. I guess you could take headache tablets if your headache comes back but other than that, just treat it as a mild cold and try not to panic.

Ylangylangspritz · 30/01/2022 23:04

I’ve had it twice. First time was fatigue, sore throat and just felt I was wading in custard-4 days later I lost my sense of smell. That was back in august. Tested positive again 7 days ago, and kept thinking that I felt unwell but actually wasnt. The biggest thing for me was a “fear” of getting sick. Really got into my head both times.

DiddyHeck · 30/01/2022 23:05

And yes I guess you could ask someone to make you soup but only if you can't eat normally. Otherwise just eat what you fancy if your appetite is unaffected.

HailAdrian · 30/01/2022 23:35

I survived it... it was quite uneventful apart from the huge loss of income.

Siameasy · 31/01/2022 10:31

Temperature is a good thing. Means your body is fighting back.

Sleep is usually the best thing with any illness of this kind. Hopefully if you have children you have someone else in the house to take on the majority of their care. Just rest and try to stay comfortable. Definitely don't try to work from home right now. Take paracetamol to deal with headaches and other pains if they are preventing you from getting sleep.

Approach it like you would any other flu-like illness and in a few days you will probably be feeling better. You've been ill before and you've recovered before. It is very likely to be the same this time. When I had Covid in December if it wasn't for the testing and the massive awareness of the pandemic everywhere, I would have taken a few sick days and not have thought anything much of it.

If you feel worse rather than better and think you need medical help, take it as it comes, but do try not to worry because full recovery in a week or so is by far the most likely outcome.

Just drink lots, rest and try not to stress.

I'm currently on day 2 of COVID with 2 cardis on and a thick scarf wrapped around me, and have forced myself not to WFH but just rest.

I was in the office last week so felt a bit guilty as I emailed people yesterday to let them know that I may have been contagious when I meet with them

I'm about to catch up on all the TV that I never have time to watch 🙂
