Could it be covid

Hi my son started with diarrhea last Monday night and it continued till Thursday night. Then on Friday morning he started with a temperature and slept most of the day. Yesterday seems a bit better temperature down but wasn't interested in eating or drinking but was doing some normal stuff. Today temperature is normal but doesn't look great. Could it be covid he's not been at school since Monday and I have tried to do a lft but he has learning disabilities and will fight with me. So not a proper test done.

Any advice

Sal

Well yes, it definitely could be. Stomach upset is a common symptom in children.
With the temperature though you really need to do a PCR test (in your circumstances don't bother with the less sensitive LFT as you don't want to have to put him through two tests if that comes back negative).

If you can't test him you'll have to isolate him for 10 days sadly.

I have ordered a pcr test.

Thanks for the advice

Good luck, I hope the testing isn't too bad.

When we had covid we used the nose only LFT's and just touching the inside of the nostril gave an immediate clear positive.

What I'm trying to say is that depending on his needs it doesn't necessarily need to be bad or traumatic, or shoved too deeply inside. He could even do it himself if able to.

I have tried the lft they are coming back negative only managing to just get up his nose slightly.

That's the trouble with the LFT - you can't trust a negative as they're not so sensitive, so when there are symptoms you have to do the PCR as well.

My husband had the opposite to @ldontWanna and never got a single positive LFT despite having symptoms and getting a positive PCR
