When would you get boosted?

I am now 4 weeks post COVID and just starting to feel human again. I had to cancel my booster first for an ear infection and then as I had COVID.

I’ve had a pretty rough time of it. Just the “mild” symptoms but the muscle tiredness, brain fog, exhaustion and headaches have been dreadful and I’ve struggled to return to work in a sedentary but mentally demanding role. I’ve had to stop doing everything other than the bare minimum required to keep myself and my son fed and clothed.

I have the protection of my antibodies but don’t want to lose my COVID passport in case I want to travel (my role does require this sometimes). I am scared having the booster now may set me back as I had headaches for 2 weeks after the second vaccine. Would you give it a little longer? Or go for it and hope the anecdotal evidence about the vaccine helping with long COVID are true?

I would leave it a bit longer. I had mine last week, six weeks after I caught Covid. Felt awful for three days and not brilliant for a couple more, and my cough which never went away seems much worse than it was before.

I am the same as you, 3 weeks post covid infection and I am just starting to feel normal again. I am going to wait at least a month or two before I have my booster. If you have had covid, you will receive a recovered from covid pass that can be used for travelling in most countries for 180 days. It should show on your NHS App in the travel section.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 30/01/2022 21:42

Thanks both. I’ll give it til at least 8 weeks I think. I have managed to do a couple of nice things this weekend and I’d hate to go backwards.

OP leave it a bit longer than that and you might find international travel rules start to change. The tide is turning a bit…

GeneLovesJezebel · 31/01/2022 07:44

If the teenagers are having to leave 12 weeks I’d think that’s a good figure to go with.

UnicornsReal · 31/01/2022 07:45

I haven’t had mine and am waiting. Partly because I think yet another vaccine will be brought in soon. Partly because I think the rules may change again. The travel industry needs people to travel as much as possible.

I've read today that countries like France and Spain etc are requiring booster jabs if more than 270 days since double vaccination.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 03/02/2022 09:47

OP here. I dropped a kettle full of water on myself on Monday and am now being treated for partial thickness burns. All thoughts of COVID boosters are at the back of my mind for a good few weeks!

Oh no, hope you're ok OP. Look after yourself.

Trouble is they are only effective for ten weeks and it will be boosters every three months at this rate.

This simply isn't true. Antivax nonsense which is demonstrably untrue. Protection doesn't fall off a cliff at 10 weeks.

DaisyChains3 · 04/02/2022 06:29

Anti vac nonsense? Even though it was in BBC news at the time that Omnicron was first identified? It hasn’t been mentioned much since, but it was being widely reported at the time.
It was also reported that the vaccines in general are not effective against Omicron. Even though now we are told they offer some protection. A lot of mixed messages which don’t make me feel very confident at all, especially since so many people are contracting Covid , often without knowing which variant it is.
I have had both vaccines by the way. Not the booster because of all the mixed messages. By the time I want to travel I will be forced to have another one anyway most likely.

Cookerhood · 04/02/2022 11:17

It was widely reported because the BBC like to have scary headlines. The vaccines may not do much to stop you catching omicron but you only have to look at the graphs of deaths in the unvaccinated versus the vaccinated to see the benefit.
Do you think that on week 9 day 6 you are protected & on week 10 day 1 you aren't?

Cookerhood · 04/02/2022 11:22

I've attached some graphs. It's New York as those were the first ones I can across but you can see the effect the vaccines are having.

If you have at least 3 weeks notice about need to travel, why not get boosted once you have notice of need to travel?

WillYouDoTheFandango · 04/02/2022 17:23

Sometimes I’m lucky if I get 3 days notice sometimes @YeOldeTrout Grin
