14 year old getting 2nd jab early

I've name changed for this.
14 yo DD is off to Spain with her music group at Easter to play in a concert. She's thrilled to have been asked and we are delighted for her. To go to Spain you need your second jab at least 14 days before travel. The second jab is 12 weeks after the first. She only had her first on 3rd jan so her second is due on 28 march. To get a 14 day gap before travel she would need it on 25 march. I can only book online from that 12 week point (28 march). Do you think a walk in vaccine centre would do it a few days early for her?? Even at 20/11 weeks rather than 12?? I'm panicking now...

Yes, I think they would. I had my booster a few days early when it was at the 6 month mark. I would try at 8 weeks at a walk in and see what they say.

Thank you. I had my booster and second jab a couple of weeks early at a walk in. I just wasn't sure if they'd be a bit more pedantic when it comes to kids.

My DS and several of his friends had it early probably nearer 9 than 8 weeks, at a walk in. No questions asked. Go for it.

Adding - maybe choose a vaccine walk in clinic in an area you think might be having less vaccine uptake? But I'm sure most walk ins now are fine to do it - it's just that you can't book it online before the 12 weeks.

They shouldn't do it, it's against the guidance from the JVCI. We wouldn't do it where I vaccinate.

FoamBurst · 29/01/2022 20:40

They didn't let my ds have it 24 hours early!

Cookerhood · 29/01/2022 21:19

No, we wouldn't either. Early on we did a lot early & were even doing 16/17 year olds when they weren't supposed to be getting it. I presume someone told the clinical lead off.

I think you’ve got to hope that Spain change their rules before then. Have you thought what might happen if your dd catches covid before her 2nd vaccination? She will then have to wait another 3 months
