Day 11 - VERY dark line

covidQs · 29/01/2022 08:51

I tested very faintly positive for covid on an LFT on the 18th Jan. I've been asymptomatic throughout.

The line gradually got darker over 2-3 days and has remained a dark line since. I'm now on day 11, release day, and my test remains very dark (see photo).

  1. Is the darkness of the line an indicator of how contagious I am (although asymptomatic)?
  1. What are other people peoples experience of day 10/11 tests, when you've assumedly test faintly positive very early on?

For comparison this was my day 0.

I tested today as I was hoping to see my parent in a care home, I am day …. lost count really but maybe 26? Still a line like that.

I have lost hope of ever testing negative on a LFT.

Which is shit because my father is getting more and more distressed that he’s seen no one, there is only me to visit, can use the phone.

Just glad I tested at home before I drove an hour, took a LFT there, waited up to two hours for them to come and tell me it was positive and that I couldn’t come in.

(I have discussed it with them, they don’t care how long ago my positive PCR was, they just care that the LFT is positive).

Sloughsabigplace · 29/01/2022 09:00

*he can’t use the phone

@Sloughsabigplace

Wow! That's crazy!

I'd love to know what about what the darkness of the line means, and whether it means I'm still contagious.

My DC were negative on day 7. They've got activities and a party this weekend that I'd have to go with them to. Legally I can, but I'm not sure that morally I should with a line that dark?!?

Oooh watching with interest as mine is doing exactly the same. I’m worried that because I had such a tiny tiny faint line that you would almost miss on day 0 that I will still be infectious by day 11 when i go back to work. Day 1 and 2 there were no lines at all! Then 3 was very red. Before anyone says ‘but why are you testing so much’ it was out of interest and boredom!

I have no idea.

I don’t go anywhere anyway so it’s not really an issue for me, but yeah, am I still contagious? Or is it just picking up the dead cells?

I only had cold symptoms for a few days.
It wasn’t like I was really ill.

Dh had it at the same time, his lines were dark until day 10 but then disappeared.

Thiswayorthatway · 29/01/2022 09:25

OP legally you have to self isolate if you’re testing positive, whether you’re 10 days + or not, you’re still infectious and it could be long Covid. Can someone else take your negative kids out?

Thiswayorthatway · 29/01/2022 09:26

You can get an at home or drive through PCR to double check.

ASimpleLobsterHat · 29/01/2022 09:30

That’s incorrect advice - you do not legally have to isolate past day 10 unless you still have a temperature. You only have to get a negative test to leave isolation if you want to leave it ‘early’ (ie before the 10 day period).

LadyPenelope68 · 29/01/2022 09:30

@Sloughsabigplace
I’m on day 21 and still testing positive on LFT. We’ve another huge outbreak of cases in the classes I teach (Primary Teacher), so I’ll have no idea whatsoever if I’m positive again

ASimpleLobsterHat · 29/01/2022 09:33

Here is the bit about leaving isolation after 10 days

Incorrect. Once you’ve reached 10 days, you don’t isolate, even if still testing positive on LFT

This is almost exactly what happened to me. Day 0 was faint positive, day 1 was negative, day 2 was faint positive again, day 3 onwards are dark lines.

This is not true. You can leave on day 11 regardless, as you're not obligated to test to even see if you're negative.

I am undergoing treatment in hospital for an unrelated condition, I am day 12 and tested positive on a LFT so was sent home by the doctor.

Unfortunately not.

To make it worse they were both positive for 5 days before I got my faint positive. So they've been stuck in for 2weeks and 2days so far.

They've been asymptomatic the whole time, and I've been paying for nursery while unable to work.

Regardless I'm going to have to take them to nursery on Monday, and will take them out for a walk today. But I'm thinking the party and indoor activities aren't a good idea.

That's simply not true, and misinformation, as others have posted.

You do not have to isolate after day 10... You only need to continue isolating if you have certain other symptoms such as a fever persisting at this point (which seems to be very rare unless you're particularly I'll).

You isolate if you still have a fever, but otherwise no... If you applied your logic anyone with long Covid would need to isolate for months/years!

treeflowercat · 29/01/2022 10:05

@Thiswayorthatway

Why? PCRs can remain positive for up to 90 days! You seem determine to want people to isolate for far longer than needed.

You can see himConfused you won't be infectious 26 days on.
