Title should say BORIS

Can you? Presumably if you think people are simply "bashing" the Conservative party here then you think that's unjustified and can point to things you think they have done well, or adequately.

IzzyD0ra · 27/01/2022 00:49

No.

Wafflesnsniffles · 27/01/2022 00:53

Is there any reason not to bash the tories? Not just regarding covid but regarding pretty much every thing the tories have said and done since they got in.

HeddaGarbled · 27/01/2022 00:54

Furlough was good, IMO, and the financial support for businesses. Don’t know whether Johnson had any or much input there.

Ponoka7 · 27/01/2022 00:56

He was quite entertaining on the nightly Covid broadcast?
If you ignore the death rates, lack of hospital beds, ambulances upping the scoring to take a patient to hospital etc etc.

KloppsTeeth · 27/01/2022 01:01

Yes! Boris has taught my teenage son the valuable life lesson that bosses, even in top jobs, are not always good leaders and in the position they hold because of merit.

helpmehelpmetoday · 27/01/2022 01:01

OK. So do you think labour would have done a better job ?

OP posts:
UltraVividLament · 27/01/2022 01:02

Do you think that Labour would have done the same or worse?

I don’t know. No one will know. It is one of those situations where you will be criticised whatever you do, as it was so unknown. I would’ve liked to have seen more cross party working, with the best brains working on solutions.

But I am confident that Labour would’ve done a better job looking after the poorest and most vulnerable in society at a time when people really needed the help. That, to me, is a crucial measure of a decent government.

BeMoreGoldfish · 27/01/2022 01:12

Do we really have such a genuinely low opinion of politicians that we think Johnson is our least worst option?? Hmm

My 12 yr old would have done a better job. He’s a fucking disgrace Angry.

saltedBubbly · 27/01/2022 01:36

Yes i think Labour would have done a better job - because the Welsh Labour government have. They have been much more cautious and followed that scientific advice rather than headline grabbing and flip flopping policy to suit their popularity ratings

saltedBubbly · 27/01/2022 01:41

Me too. At the very start of it I felt sure that was what would happen - it's a global crisis that affects us all, so I expected collaboration with the best available experts from all parties working together.

I think that's what a sensible government would do. But Boris' govt are too insecure and full of childish fear and loathing of the other side to ever collaborate like that

saltedBubbly · 27/01/2022 01:44

I think furlough was good but to be honest I don't think they had much choice.

Eat out to help out was an utter disgrace - a parent attempt to appease their donors in the hospitality industry.

The PPE money grab is a national scandal.

The flagrant rule breaking and total arrogance when caught - I can't see Labour doing that

PermanentTemporary · 27/01/2022 06:11

I do have a bit of sympathy for any government caught holding the parcel when the pandemic arrived - it was always going to test any administration to the limit. I can well imagine the different but very serious issues there might have been if it had been a May government with a small majority or a Starmer government.

Ultimately the deep issues of a government elected on a single issue that worked actively against reacting to a pandemic, that employed Dominic Cummings and whose overriding philosophy was to destabilise public provision and institutions were quite damaging. Being led by a weak man was almost the worst of it.

Why is that relevant when we can make, and should make, comparisons with other governments instead?
lljkk · 27/01/2022 06:20

tbh, as someone who has discovered Libertarian tendancies that I never would have believed I could hold, I feel a lot more comfortable with the social restrictions coming from Tories than I would the lefties. At least I can find moments when I actually believe Tories when they say these are temporary measures.

If lefties were in charge I'd be expecting a lot of unnecessary controls, ZeroCovid craziness, more vaccine mandates (Biden pushed for all employers with at least 100 employees; Austrians & Germans will fine you if no vacc), covid passes to go to a pub (Scotland) or most shopping centres (Israel), Schools closed completely for 12 months (California), 2-5 yr olds in masks (Illinois), severe travel restrictions (NZ), etc. I despair of BJ & all the reborn Brexiters. Tories aren't highly competent, but thank fuck they aren't doing the worst of the Covid control mania.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 27/01/2022 06:21

He provided DH with some great material for his thesis about management techniques. (As an example how not everyone is a good crisis leader)

MirabelM · 27/01/2022 06:28

Furlough helped a lot and vaccine rollout was good.

The rest, awful.

BJ needs to leave. He's a joke

Furlough was good. I agree.

Vaccines were good - but only if you were over 40. I noticed that they spent a lot of effort getting vaccines to the older ones but less so to the clinically vulnerable.

This Tory Party has made a massive mistake in its choices of leaders and we pay the price. Even more so during a pandemic.

EishetChayil · 27/01/2022 06:33

We have a Home Secretary who will stop you from protesting, strip away citizenship. We have a work and Pensions Secretary who will bully you into jobs regardless of whether you can afford to take it or are even right for it.

As I recall, they tried to extend the covid measures giving them extra powers for longer than necessary in law….

I’m not sure you recognise what this government is.
