Testing negative day 9 – when do I leave self-isolation?

As the title says. I've tested negative this morning on day nine (day zero being when I first showed symptoms). When can I escape captivity??? I know I had to test negative two days running to leave early, but what happens when you're over the seven-day period?

You'd need to test negative day 10 as well to leave isolation 1 day early. If releasing before the end of day 10 you still need 2 consecutive negative tests taken 24 hours apart.

MrsTrumpton · 26/01/2022 07:37

dementedpixie But the self-isolation period is only seven days now, not ten? So I'm not testing to leave early, I'm already over the seven-day period.

Why ask the question if your not going to listen ?

No its 5 or 7 days if you have 2 consecutive negative tests 24 hours apart. If you don't its 10 days.

No, you can only end isolation before 10 days if you get 2 negative lateral flow tests in a row. Its only 7 days or 5 days or 6 or whatever they changed it to if you get the 2 negative tests.

ColettesEarrings · 26/01/2022 07:41

No it's not, it's still ten days UNLESS you have two negative tests 24hrs apart. You used to be able to start testing to release at day 7, now you can start at day 5.

WorriedGiraffe · 26/01/2022 07:42

If you had a negative test yesterday too then you can leave isolation. If yesterday was positive or you didn’t do one then you can’t

Wow, I was just double checking because the 10-day versus 7-day has confused me. No need to be rude.

Incidentally is day zero a thing or is day 1 the first day?

Thanks to everyone who clarified without being snippy.

You can return to your normal routine and stop self-isolating after 10 full days if your symptoms have gone, or if the only symptoms you have are a cough or anosmia, which can last for several weeks. If you still have a high temperature after 10 days or are otherwise unwell, stay at home and seek medical advice.

You may be able to end your self-isolation period before the end of the 10 full days. You can take anLFDtest from 5 days after the day your symptoms started (or the day your test was taken if you did not have symptoms), and anotherLFDtest on the following day. If both these test results are negative, and you do not have a high temperature, you may end your self-isolation after the second negative test result.

Report yourLFDtest resultsafter taking each test.

You should not take anLFDtest before the fifth day of your self-isolation period, and you should only end your self-isolation after you have had 2 negativeLFDtests taken on consecutive days. You should stop testing after you have had 2 consecutive negative test results

Day zero is either the first day you showed symptoms or tested positive, day one counts as your first full day in self-isolation.

That depends on where you are.

In Scotland day 1 is either first day with symptoms or the day of your positive test, but I believe in England that's day zero and day 1 is the day after.

Day 0 is day of symptoms/test if no symptoms in England. I'm still unsure of the day 0/1 position is scotland
