Any kids with tummy issues after covid?

My daughter had no symptoms during covid, but after her tummy seems to be bothering her a lot. She does not actually vomit, but a few times when she eats she has an upset tummy. It has happened a few times and too many since she had covid a couple weeks ago to be just a coincidence. Another child I know of, the mother said the same for her child. She had mentioned this before my daughter had covid, as her dc got it first so I am wondering if this is a thing happening to kids and how long it lasts and why it happens. It is so strange how covid can cause all these different issues in people. Basically anything and everyhing!

It’s deffo possible. The vast majority of our immune system is in the gut & viruses can commonly knock the good bacteria down a few notches!

A decent probiotic is worth a try. It might be just the thing to get her tummy feeling better! Also, live yoghurts!

Hope she’s feeling much better soon!

My son has actually but didn’t really think about it being covid. He’s been out of isolation a week x

I'm having this but didn't think it could be related to covid? Just thought it's a tummy bug or acid reflux - intriguing.

My dd8 got a uti a week or 2 after covid. Never had 1 before so strange coincidence. Def think it’s to do with lower immune system, makes u prone to develop other infections

Yes! My 7 year old has been complaining of tummy aches since she had covid a couple of weeks ago. Feeling sick was her first symptom and the reason we tested in the first place. It’s also the only symptom that hasn’t gone away.

Yes, my 9 year old has been complaining with this a lot. I think it might be a post-viral condition, she has had this after other infections.

How long do you think it takes to go away? I am at a loss of what to do. She is now restricting what she eats and I am worried. She normally loves food and has a high metabolism so is already thin....no extra fat reserves for weight loss if she is restricting food too long. 1-3 days is okay...but I am worried if its weeks and weeks! The other mum I spoke to said her dd had this for several weeks. She is only now starting to improve. The girls is in my dd class, so at least my dd knows her and can ask her about it. She has been also having anxiety about it so it makes it worse.

I'm sorry, I don't know. I am here because I posted about my daughter on Monday that I was a bit worried about too due to lingering symptoms. She is ok but not quite right, has managed to go into school today though.

It is definitely not the case that COVID-19 is always mild for kids. My older daughter had COVID at the beginning of Jan and is still not quite eating normally because she says a lot of food tasted funny. I would try cooking something she really likes e.g. we made a giant chocolate chip cookie that she has been eating. I would not give her normally so much fat and sugar but at the moment I am.

@allthatIcando I have tried that and she does not want to eat things she likes. She gets sad about it and is worried it will make her feel sick. She wants to stick to light bland foods and at small amounts.

Yesterday evening she had a small freshly made smoothie that I made. I made it for myself and always have extra that my kids like to have. After she said her tummy hurt. Eventually it went and a couple hours later she wanted to try eating again so had to chicken nuggets (I made them bc I knew she likes them) but again after she felt sick and was upset. And then after time went on she was hungry again and wanted a yogurt pouch so I gave that. But again same thing. But at least she is managing the small amounts and keeps trying. It is so frustrating. I will keep trying to offer her foods that I know she likes and also provide her with the light bland foods to see if that works.

My DD 4 had similar and was the reason school asked me to test. She had been complaining of belly ache in class and has had loose stools ever since. Thinking back she was sneezing a lot one day, nothing the next, no temperature etc then a few days later her belly started.

She has Covid last June aswell, that time round it was a cough and a temperature. No stomach issues.

My ds was the same. It lasted 3 months sadly
