School and Lateral Flows

Both my primary aged children have been asked to do daily LFTs by their school.
I’m not keen on doing this as although the cases are increasing in our school, both my children were positive over Christmas so have some immunity. I am also concerned that the daily testing would go on for weeks if we were to test until 7 days after the final case is identified.
I’ve looked online but cannot find the answer.
Does anyone know is a ‘contact’ notice from school official in the same way as a test and trace?

Have they said how long for? Can you just email and ask them.

Our school said daily for 7 days.

Its 'advised' not an order.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/01/2022 12:59

It's not a legal requirement either way. Just don't do it.

Aderyn21 · 25/01/2022 13:01

Totally unreasonable. I wouldn't do it.

Our school ask this. Was quite handy in identifying additional cases. Clarify with school.

Forfamily123 · 25/01/2022 13:16

It’s a request from public health English. It will be for 7 days from the last positive case in their class so it could go on for a few weeks. If your children have had covid in the last 90 days then they shouldn’t be doing LFT.

Bakewelltart987 · 25/01/2022 13:20

Don't do it they can't force you too.

CaveMum · 25/01/2022 13:24

Our school are currently asking children to do daily LFTs. Covid is rampant at the moment, last week 75 children (out of 420) were off with it as well as 9 members of staff. This week it has dropped to 51 children (including my son) but staff absence is up to 11.

Thanks for your replies.
There are quite a few cases school wide but they haven’t said how many.
I didn’t know the children shouldn’t take LFT for 90 days. I thought that was only PCR?
I understand that it’s precautionary but the idea that we could be testing asymptomatic children for weeks seems ridiculous.

It is PHE who advises this and schools with very high case numbers send it out in their behalf.

Our letters said to do it for a week (or perhaps 10 days) and then return to normal testing.
