Husband angry about “excess of drama”

Hi, just wanting some advice…our son is Clinically Vulnerable and due to receive his first Covid Vaccine dose on Thursday (he is 5)…he was a little snotty yesterday (no temps, cough, taste changes and lateral flow negative) but today had a cough and vomited…he has a v sensitive gag reflex and sometimes swallows poorly at mealtimes and can vomit. However this has never happened when he is not eating…so because there are risks to having the vaccine if you have Covid at the same time I felt we should get a PCR test to be sure…which we did. However husband was really annoyed with my “excess of drama”…I just want to protect my son as much as I can and not take any further risks…but am really upset by his reaction…AIBU? Thanks in advance x

Explain you understand he feels it's excess drama and ask him why he thinks being sure to make sure you don't risk ds is drama to him?

My bet is he's actually worried himself and communicating it badly?

If that's not the case tell him you'd rather do quiet drama than neglect what's best for your child through loud opinionated drama!

Is there a risk to having the vaccine whilst positive? I thought it was more a waste of time

That's what I thought, but could be wrong.

My DD is classed as CV (not CEV).... She had Covid and was almost completely asymptomatic! My DS (not CV) had far worse (still pretty mild) symptoms.

JanglyBeads · 24/01/2022 22:18

Isn't it to be avoided simply because it would make it difficult to distinguish vaxx side effects from symptoms?

Tbh a lot of DHs think their DWs are overly dramatic about many things to do with the DC. They may or may not be correct.

sproutsandparsnips · 24/01/2022 22:28

But it won't be an issue will it? Either the test will be negative and you can go ahead, or it will be positive and you defer the vaccine? The only issue is if your husband is being unpleasant to you?

@Saturdayrabbit42 - I would have done exactly the same as you, and my DH would have the same reaction as yours too. My dc is CEV (no sign of the vaccine here yet, so well done for getting it for your dc). I have just had Covid (on day 10 today). I have been paranoid about trying to avoid passing it on to her, but DH thinks I'm making a fuss over nothing. This is always the dynamic in our household, tbh it's exhausting, so I feel for you. Hope the PCR is negative and your dc gets their vaccine as planned.

VikingsandDragons · 26/01/2022 12:57

Sorry a complete aside but are you not in the UK? We've been waiting for news of the vaccine for our CEV child but nothing yet

Howdoisawwithnosaw · 26/01/2022 13:57

I don’t understand why getting a covid test for a covid symptom is dramatic at all, let alone excessively so.

Saturdayrabbit42 · 27/01/2022 02:35

Thanks for the supportive replies. Thankfully negative. No further symptoms. For 1st dose of vaccine in the morning, yes in the UK, CV/CEV vaccines for 5-11 opened up in our area this week.

Quite apart from Covid/everything else. I recommend you have his tonsils/adenoids looked at.

DS2 had similar symptoms and it turns out his were ENORMOUS and he was swallowing a lot of air when eating and had a hair trigger gag reflex.

Had them out and he was a different kid.

Buzzinwithbez · 27/01/2022 08:15

It doesn't seem a good idea to vaccinate if his immune system is already dealing with something else and as guidance is to wait 3 months after a covid infection, it seems sensible to find out if what the infection he has is covid.
