These are normal covid symptoms right?

DD is 6, and had a video call with ExH earlier and he’s now panicking and tell me she needs to be seen by a HCP.

She is asthmatic and suffered badly with bronchiolitis and chest infections until she was 2 and a half ish and she is definitely more ill than she has ever been with a cold or flu but I’m not overly worried, but not sure if I should be?

She’s on the small side for her age as well.

So her symptoms:

  • Absolutely exhausted – she’ll seem fine and chatty but then suddenly go quiet or randomly fall asleep she’ll nap for 30-60 minutes then be on the go again
  • Noisy but not struggling breathing – as in if I’m next to her I can hear every breath but she’s not breathing particularly quickly or seeming to struggle
  • Slight cough
  • Says her food tastes odd or of nothing at all – she is also eating less than normal
  • Temp of 39.1 without calpol, comes down to 38ish with calpol but she’s still warm
  • Says her legs and arms feel tired so is struggling to get dressed

She fell asleep briefly on the video call and he said she looks really pale and washed out (I mean she’s 6 and got covid, not sure what he expected?)

She is drinking a little bit more than usual, and the only thing she says tastes ok is orange squash but I’m going with it as I was always told that when ill drinking anything is more important than not drinking at all.

Does that sound normal?

This is Day 1 for us so I’m not sure if this is normal. ExH thinks she needs A+E, I feel I’m managing her at home. ExH thinks she should only be mildly ill and should be up for doing her schoolwork already.

So what does MN think? I often lose perspective when it comes to ExH as he controlled me and does everything he can to show me as a bad parent.

Fairly normal to me besides the napping.

My five year olds had it last week and all those symptoms on day 1. Much better after that.

@Fairjo Thank you, hoping DD picks up soon.

All pretty normal I think. If you were concerned call 111 but as parent, I wouldn't be panicking. Ds was similar but minus the fever (none of us had fevers with covid) and it only lasted 2 days then he was much better so she may perk up in the day day or so!

Sleep is good! Sleep = rest = recovery time.

My legs were very achey

Hope she feels better soon!

dementedpixie · 24/01/2022 21:18

Maybe try ibuprofen if calpol isn't reducing fever much

IWillBeSeeingYou · 24/01/2022 21:19

I tested positive on Sat and have had every one of those symptoms since. Saturday and Sunday I was randomly falling asleep every hour, haven’t today although still feel exhausted

SeeminglyOblivious · 24/01/2022 21:21

I'd say pretty normal.

I would very much recommend buying an Oximeter (sp?) though op. It's invaluable for peace of mind with respiratory illnesses imo.

Obviously it doesn't mean you can ignore other symptoms but when you can see their pulse is normal and o2 is 99% it's very reassuring.

Caramellatteplease · 24/01/2022 21:22

Do you have an oximeter? You need one. Given her history I'd be having quick chat with the GP re noisy breathing

itsgettingweird · 24/01/2022 21:24

Sounds about right.

I had it match 2020 and now have it again.

Both times I've drank absolutely loads and been napping lots.

Difference is this time it's more a cold and very sore throat and first time I had horrendous pains in calf's, right chest and palpitations.

Neither time did I require hospital and so would be called mild. But there's a huge difference in how mild both have been!

If I wasn't in isolation I'd be able to soldier on through this one!

@dementedpixie She can't have ibuprofen as both me and ExH are allergic to it - I am anaphylaxic allergic as is my mum so they didn't risk it with DD at all.

Yes, this,
PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 24/01/2022 21:29

I got an oximeter from Amazon. I wouldn’t like the noisy breathing but the rest seems normal. Is she having chest recesses when she breathes/sucking in at the neck?

@PammieDooveOrangeJoof No, I know to look for those. She's just noisy breathing more like a slight wheeze, she does get one occasionally when she's done exercise as well.

Have just ordered an Oximeter on Amazon.

Update:

She's still tired but not falling asleep randomly so is better today. ExH still demanding I get her seen but I don't think I do, I've compromised and organised a phone call with her asthma nurse for tomorrow.

I had all these symptoms you've listed. It's been a month and I still have a few of them Confused extreme exhaustion was my main symptom also.

@tokyo1 thank you, hope you feel better soon. DDs got a new symptom of slight pain when she breathes in today but her oxygen levels are fine so I'm not panicking yet.

She seems fine in herself, a bit quiet and tired but generally fine.

Hope the symptoms clear for you soon.
