What to do when positive?

It's rife here, schools are full of cases and work has a few, it feels only a matter of time now until we get it within our home.

So if/when one/some of us test positive on a LFD what do we do next? Do you test each day until negative and then you're allowed out? Do we do PCR tests?

I'm trying to prepare and be ready for this as we don't have family or friends who can shop etc for us.

You report your positive test result on your lft. Track and trace will be in touch. You don't need to test until day 5 earliest and this is when you need the first negative result to be allowed out on day 6 when you must also test negative. You must test negative 2 times with a gap of 24 hours between tests to be able to leave isolation early, if this does not happen isolation ends midnight after day 10, unless you have a fever.

If you don’t have family and friends around I’d make sure to always have at least a few days worth of food in the freezer to last until you can get a good delivery in case the adults both get it together. Other’s in the household if vaccinated or too young don’t need to isolate. 2 consecutive negative daily lateral flows from day 5 and you can stop isolation otherwise it’s after day 10.

I'm current positive - second time.

I tested positive in Thursday evening on an LFT. I started to feel unwell during the day so tested when I got home from school, despite the morning LFT being negative. Daily testing due to very high numbers at school and I'm CV.

I reported the positive LFT result to the government website at www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result

You then get a couple of email and/or test from NHS England.
First knew I'll tell you about isolation, etc.
The second one will be from Test and Trace. It has a link to follow and some information for you to add re contacts and where you've been.

You won't need a PCR unless you need to claim payments or you are vulnerable and need to potentially access anti viral medication. I did for the latter, so that was my next step the following day.

I let work know asap as I knew they'd need to arrange cover. Plus I'd go in the school stats, as it's being monitored due to high case numbers. I also let anyone I'd been in close contact know so they could begin their 7 days of daily testing.

Dh is negative and is able to go to work as normal, etc. he is testing daily for the week. It also means he can go out and get food, medication, etc in for us.

Re monitoring your own results.

Remember the day of a positive test is day 0.

You don't need to test again until day 5.

If fully vaccinated, you can be released from isolation from day 6.
To do this you must have a negative result in day 5 and day 6, 24 hours apart.

If day 5 is positive, then it's day 6/7 and so on.

If, after day 10, you are still positive you can leave isolation IF you no longer have a fever/high temperature.

This chart may help.

Your household and close contacts should test daily, but the person who is positive doesn't test again until day 5.

Day 0 is day of first symptoms (T and T asked about symptoms on their form) or day of positive LFT is asymptomatic.

Next day is day 1.

Those who don't need to self isolate test daily for 10 days regardless of if the positive person gets 2 negative tests and leaves isolation early.

I'm positive right now and managed to arrange an Asda order (despite doing usual Friday evening shop and batch cook I don't fancy my usual healthy meals).

I've ordered biscuits and milk and cereal, fizzy drink and chocolate. I don't have an appetite really so figure any food is better than nothing!

I've put a note on Asda to say please leave in bags at door as covid positive household.

And yes it's rife in schools.

70% of my class have tested positive in last 4 days! Including all staff!
